About The Position

The Sales Associate position is a part-time role based in the Crystal Lake Store. The primary accountability is to provide exceptional customer service, handle transactions, and maintain the sales floor. This role involves direct customer interaction, merchandise handling, and adherence to store policies and procedures. The environment is a fast-paced retail setting requiring a team-oriented approach and a focus on customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Ability to provide high levels of customer service.
  • Ability to handle cash accurately.
  • Ability to count, add, and subtract.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • Ability to follow all safety rules.
  • Must be able to operate a pricing gun and cash register.
  • Ability to stand, bend, lift, and reach for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Use of both hands.
  • Good manual and finger dexterity.
  • Ability to visually inspect and eliminate non-saleable donations.
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively perform all functions of the job.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of Goodwill’s pricing structure and ability to identify pricing concerns.
  • Knowledge of proper procedures for un-priced merchandise, returns, gift cards, vouchers, and discounts.
  • Understanding of cash handling processes including cash drops, change requests, and drawer reconciliations.
  • Experience in a retail store environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service, greeting customers and assisting them with sales.
  • Handle cash and credit card transactions accurately.
  • Ring up merchandise on the cash register.
  • Bag merchandise for customers.
  • Communicate customer concerns and compliments to management.
  • Assist customers by answering questions, walking them to products, and thanking them for their support.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and appealing checkout area.
  • Keep checkouts clear of clutter, excess hangers, and merchandise.
  • Assist with light housekeeping tasks and putting away merchandise in its proper place.
  • Create displays and end caps as directed by management.
  • Follow established safety rules and report any safety accidents or hazards.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area.
  • Utilize proper equipment and supplies to meet safety standards.
  • Maintain workstation supplies and complete daily workstation clean-up.
  • Follow loss prevention procedures by reporting potential losses, including customer and employee theft and abuse of discounts.
  • Proactively support the mission through requests for customer participation in the round-up program.
  • Follow established processes according to Kaizen standards.
  • Demonstrate regard for Goodwill’s assets, including property and equipment.
