About The Position

To sell merchandise offered by the Goodwill Store to individuals through the use of exceptional customer service, display techniques, knowledge of the quality, characteristics, and merit of the merchandise and approved sales techniques. This role involves promoting a friendly and welcoming environment, assisting customers, maintaining store cleanliness and organization, and processing transactions accurately. The Sales Associate is also expected to understand and communicate the Goodwill Mission, promote safe conditions, and assist with training volunteers and trainees.

Requirements

  • Must possess and consistently demonstrate the ability and willingness to utilize excellent customer service skills.
  • Must have good work habits such as acceptable attitude and punctuality.
  • Must respond appropriately to supervision.
  • Understanding of how to approach a customer.
  • Ability to demonstrate merchandise to shoppers.
  • Basic knowledge of fashion, style, color, quality, and the use of accessories.
  • Basic knowledge of household goods, merit, and purpose.
  • Awareness of the community and the buying habits of residents.
  • Ability to adapt to a potential high volume/high stress situation.
  • Must possess adequate physical endurance to work at industrial standards.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25lbs unassisted, 50lbs assisted.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to push or pull.
  • Must be able to occasionally sit, kneel, stoop, throw, turn and twist body.

Responsibilities

  • Sell merchandise through exceptional customer service, display techniques, and knowledge of product.
  • Promote a friendly and welcoming environment for all customers.
  • Greet and engage all customers.
  • Assist customers in determining location and selection of desired merchandise.
  • Answer phone calls promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain store cleanliness, organization, and sizing.
  • Resolve customer concerns, complaints, and conflicts.
  • Monitor customer checkout times and expedite transactions.
  • Process cash register transactions accurately and efficiently.
  • Count change back to every customer and thank them for their purchase.
  • Understand and communicate the Goodwill Mission.
  • Dress appropriately according to the Goodwill dress code.
  • Work with people of all abilities.
  • Display merchandise correctly.
  • Distinguish colors for customer assistance and display arrangement.
  • Make customers aware of item benefits (quality, style, usefulness, condition).
  • Stock clothing/wares efficiently and prepare merchandise for stock rotation.
  • Promote safe conditions and perform fire safety procedures.
  • Report accidents, incidents, and unsafe conditions to a supervisor.
  • Monitor for suspicious behavior and report theft.
  • Assist management with training volunteers/trainees.
  • Assist in loading/unloading of Goodwill truck.
  • Prepare daily sales reports.
  • Make daily bank deposits.
  • Cross-train in other areas as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by management.
