As a Customer Service Associate in Building Materials, you provide friendly, professional service to customers and help them find products and services for their home improvement needs. You will answer questions, help customers locate and select merchandise, occasionally load merchandise, and make sure customer needs are met. Most of your time will be spent listening to customers, answering questions, and organizing merchandise. Duties may vary by department, and associates may cross-train in other store areas. The role may involve preparing merchandise to meet customer needs, such as cutting and bundling wood or cutting drywall. The role does not require regular travel, though occasional travel to meetings, training, or neighboring stores may be needed. Working conditions vary by location and may include indoor and outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat or cold, wet or humid conditions, wind or drafts, noise, and moving or shaking objects and equipment. Associates must follow lifting guidelines: single lifts are limited to 75 pounds, with team lifts used minimally beginning at 75 pounds or when needed. Powered equipment should be used as required, with proper training or assistance from a trained coworker.
