About The Position

Sack Lumber Sales Associates represent Sack Lumber Company by providing an outstanding customer experience consistent with company values. The primary role is to assist customers and maintain a clean, efficient lumberyard and store. Associates are expected to continually learn about the retail lumber and building materials industry and expand their knowledge across the lumberyard and retail store. The role may include safe delivery of materials to job sites. Advancement opportunities include Assistant Manager and Yard Manager.

Requirements

Outstanding customer service skills and a professional attitude.
Organized self-starter who thinks independently and solves problems.
Strong math, reading, writing, and communication skills.
Knowledge of effective sales methods and techniques.
Understand how to safely operate a forklift.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.

Nice To Haves

Working knowledge of common construction materials and methods.

Responsibilities

Assist customers in person and by phone, answer questions, help locate merchandise, and suggest add-on sales to help customers complete projects.
Estimate and process special orders as needed.
Use point-of-sale systems for price lookups, special orders, and order entry.
Maintain a clean, orderly, and inviting lumberyard and store, including housekeeping tasks.
Notify customers of upcoming promotions and new products.
Assist with regular inventory counts.
Load customers’ vehicles and check invoices to ensure the correct products are loaded.
Straighten and maintain lumber bins and store shelves.
Help yard staff with other tasks as needed.
Attend all staff meetings.
Follow store policies and safety standards.
Deliver materials safely and securely to job sites.
Expand knowledge of all departments and become versatile enough to assist in other areas.
With experience, mentor new employees and help them understand products and retail concepts.
