About The Position

The Sales Associate assists customers with purchasing merchandise by understanding their needs, demonstrating products, suggesting suitable options, and preparing sales orders. The role also supports customer relationships, resolves product or service concerns, operates the cash register, processes transactions and returns, and helps maintain stocked, orderly merchandise areas.

Requirements

Excellent customer service skills.
Good verbal communication skills.
Ability to operate equipment such as cash registers, calculators, or scanners.
Basic mathematical skills for making change and issuing refunds.
Basic and intermediate knowledge of building products and local building codes.
Knowledge of the company’s products and services and customer-related policies.
Successful completion of on-the-job training, including levels 1 and 2 of the positional training offered.
Ability to stand for prolonged periods and work on a computer or related equipment.
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds at times and occasionally lift or move up to 80 pounds.
Ability to perform repetitive movements over long periods.

Responsibilities

Greet and interact with customers.
Consult with customers to understand their needs and preferences for available merchandise.
Demonstrate and explain merchandise, selecting and suggesting options suitable for customer needs.
Emphasize product features, quote prices and credit terms, and prepare sales orders.
Retrieve merchandise from the sales floor or yard and place special orders when appropriate and required.
Build and maintain customer relationships by entering new and existing customer sales data into a computer database.
Help customers resolve complaints, escalating issues to management when appropriate.
Investigate and resolve customer problems with products or services.
Operate the cash register accurately using the UPC scanner, quick key, and product keywords.
Accept cash, checks, and credit or debit card payments.
Process returns and exchanges according to store policy.
Assist with stocking and restocking, fronting and facing products on shelves, and housekeeping.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
