Sales Associate
About The Position
The Sales Associate assists with retail sales of wine, beer, and spirits while providing customers with an honest, approachable, and passionate experience. The role may require coverage at both PlumpJack Wine & Spirits locations: Fillmore and Noe Valley in San Francisco. PlumpJack Wine & Spirits is a boutique wine shop with two city locations and is part of a hospitality group that began with a single corner shop in 1992. The Sales Associate supports store management with daily operations, customer service, merchandising, inventory, deliveries, marketing, loss prevention, and maintaining a clean and safe store. Full-time for this position can mean working a minimum of 24 hours per week.
Requirements
- Previous retail experience preferred.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of wine, beer, and spirits, with a desire to learn more.
- Basic computer skills, typing ability, and ability to multitask.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and efficient.
- Diplomatic and calm, with strong verbal communication skills.
- Courteous, friendly, and professional manner.
- Good team player.
- Customer-service focused.
- Able to work productively with little supervision.
- Trustworthy and reliable.
- Able to work flexible hours, including weekends.
- Passionate about wines and spirits.
- Able to stand and walk short distances throughout the shift.

- Able to use stairs frequently each day.

Responsibilities
- Greet customers on the sales floor, by phone, or online, and help determine the merchandise they want.
- Provide customers with an educational experience when purchasing wine, spirits, or beer.
- Respond to customer needs and requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist store management with daily tasks, including regularly restocking the store.
- Handle deliveries, restock goods, and maintain warehouse organization.
- Maintain high standards of service and cleanliness in the store.
- Assist store management with retail inventory as directed.
- Support store marketing by attending events, following up with clients, building relationships, and communicating with the marketing team about advertising plans.
- Help ensure customers receive exemplary service.
- Assist with loss prevention by providing customer service and engaging with people in the store.
- Know daily sales goals and help drive business to achieve them.
- Foster a fun, competitive, and inviting team environment.
- Maintain visual standards throughout the day.
- Represent and promote PlumpJack Wine & Spirits positively and professionally, including at requested events and through relationship-building on and off property.
- Comply with PlumpJack policies and procedures.
- Immediately report suspicious occurrences and hazardous conditions, and avoid injury to self and others.
- Maintain clean and safe work areas and equipment.
- Attend mandatory meetings as directed.
- Perform other tasks, including cross-training, as directed.
- Follow the attendance and punctuality policy and report to work as scheduled and prepared to start.
- Use phones, computers, and the cash register as part of daily work.
