About The Position

The Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) serves the men and women who wear the flag, providing them with the tools they need. This role offers an unforgettable, dynamic, and competitive work environment. The Sales Associate will sell general merchandise to customers using professional selling techniques and work as part of a sales team to provide exceptional customer service. This position also involves assisting in all aspects of operating a Food and Beverage Convenience Bar, including opening and closing procedures, preparing and displaying goods, replenishing stock, and cleaning stations and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Greets and engages customers to provide sales assistance.
  • Assists customers in selecting merchandise and suggests complementary items.
  • Offers customers the opportunity to purchase extended product warranties, explaining coverage, benefits, and price.
  • Interacts with customers and coworkers in a friendly and professional manner, adhering to dress code and supporting team members.
  • Becomes knowledgeable about merchandise, including setup, use, care, characteristics, price points, and warranty coverage.
  • Communicates product information to customers knowledgeably and legibly.
  • Ensures assigned areas are fully stocked and merchandise is neatly arranged.
  • Communicates with supervisors regarding stock, merchandise, customer preferences, and problems.
  • Participates in department meetings and exchanges ideas for improving customer service and sales performance.
  • Completes sales transactions efficiently and thanks customers for their patronage.
  • Performs cash register transactions accurately, including cash, charge, check, gift certificates, and layaway.
  • Advises customers of upcoming sales events and services.
  • Offers customers the opportunity to open a NEXCARD account and informs them of its benefits.
  • Becomes knowledgeable in NEX store policies and procedures, including returns, price matching, check cashing, and rain checks.
  • Handles customer returns and problems tactfully and efficiently, applying store policies consistently.
  • Maintains a high level of awareness in assigned areas to deter theft.
  • Unpacks, stages, and moves merchandise as assigned.
  • Assists in creating store displays and performing periodic inventories.
  • Completes paperwork related to merchandise, inventory, returns, and cash register operations accurately.
  • Participates in applicable commission and gainsharing sales incentive programs.
  • Lifts up to 25 lbs. for job duties such as assisting customers, lifting merchandise, and stocking sales areas.
  • Opens and closes the Food and Beverage Convenience Bar.
  • Ensures all equipment is turned on during opening and off during closing.
  • Preheats and displays products in heated display merchandisers.
  • Replenishes products and condiments for the beverage bar.
  • Time-dates products placed in the refrigerator at the close of business.
  • Cleans small wares and equipment throughout the day and at closing.
  • Monitors the temperature of refrigerators and freezers a minimum of 3 times daily.
  • May be required to attend food safety training sessions.
