About The Position

As a Sales Associate, you represent the company and its brand while helping build its reputation for valuing customers and their opinions. You assist customers in recognizing their needs for the company’s products and services, learn about the merchandise, and explain the company’s purpose in an educational, insightful, and professional manner. The position calls for a positive, outgoing approach to serving customers and making a positive contribution to the organization. Responsibilities span customer service, sales, store organization, inventory, and dependable completion of assigned work. The role includes engaging with customers, maintaining the store’s appearance, recommending and selling merchandise, using a point-of-sale system, processing transactions and paperwork, and completing inventory processes. Work is typically indoors, though outdoor assignments may occur depending on location. The position involves substantial standing and movement, as well as occasional lifting and other physical activities.

Requirements

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to read, write, and interpret instructional documents, including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to communicate effectively with customers, peers, and management, including using proper telephone etiquette.
Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Ability to multitask while attending to customers and remain flexible to the needs of the business.
Ability to work as part of a team and take initiative without direct supervision.
Enthusiastic, friendly, and energetic approach with a desire to provide outstanding service.
Ability to stand, move, talk, hear, reach, and grab constantly, including standing for at least two consecutive hours.
Ability to occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb ladders.
Ability to lift at least 25 pounds and up to 50 pounds in some departments.

Nice To Haves

Basic knowledge of products and merchandise.
Retail experience is preferred but not required.
High school graduation or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

Proactively engage customers, ask questions, listen to their needs, and direct them to merchandise.
Inform customers about upcoming events, promotions, mobile offers, and the STAR card, and provide premier customer service.
Build positive, inclusive, and respectful relationships; take accountability for actions and outcomes.
Maintain the store’s appearance and know the store layout.
Cross-sell and upsell products, and recommend current trends and promotions based on customers’ individual needs.
Learn product features and use company tools and technology to provide customers with product knowledge and specifications.
Use a point-of-sale system to process cash, exchanges, discounts, gift cards, credit cards, and debit cards; handle cash, count money, and return accurate amounts to customers.
Complete paperwork, reports, and reconciliations.
Complete inventory processes, ensure merchandise is properly checked in and accurately ticketed, and potentially participate in periodic inventories.
Adhere to the assigned work schedule and follow through accurately and completely on work assignments.
Perform other duties as assigned.
