If incumbent hired as a Sales Associate, they may progress to the Sales Technician level without further competition once minimum qualifications of the Sales Technician position are met. No military affiliation is required. As a Sales Associate, you will be the face of our company! You will be directly responsible for assisting customers and helping them recognize the need for our products and services. As a Sales Technician (Jewelry), you will sell fine jewelry and watches to customers using salesmanship and in-depth knowledge of quality and workmanship of gold, platinum, silver, precious and semi-precious stones. You will articulate to customers the artistic features and functions of various watches and fine jewelry, describe merchandise features, demonstrate its use, and explain the difference between various similar and dissimilar items. You will also describe and sell product warranties, listen to the needs of the customer in order to inform customers of specific merchandise available or to complete special order(s) for merchandise not readily available. You will assist the department manager in arranging displays in the jewelry showcase according to planograms and set up promotional displays for scheduled promotional events. You will count promotional items before and after promotional events to determine quantities sold, operate a cash register or other sales-related equipment, and verify and accept cash, credit card/checks, etc. You will practice loss prevention procedures by conducting an audit count of specified merchandise in the fine jewelry department. You may also train other sales associates on the features and facts concerning watches, precious and semi-precious stones, gold, platinum and silver. This position is authorized at Class I and Class II stores only.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of products/merchandise
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret instructional documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers, peers, and management.
  • Ability to communicate on the telephone with proper etiquette.
  • Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to multi-task, while being attentive to customers and remaining flexible to the needs of the business.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and take initiative independent of direct supervision.
  • Constant moving, talking, hearing, reaching, grabbing and standing for at least two consecutive hours.
  • May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.
  • Vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Involves lifting at least 25 lbs. and up to 50lbs in some departments.
  • Enthusiastic, friendly, and energetic with a desire to provide outstanding service.
  • One year of responsible experience in clerical, office or retail sales store work of any kind in which the applicant has demonstrated the ability to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled.
  • 18 months progressively responsible experience in retail sales performing the kind of duties which constitute the principal work of the position to be filled and possesses technical knowledge of precious and semi-precious stones and metals as it relates to quality, similarities and differences.

Responsibilities

  • Using a Point-of-Sales system, processing cash exchanges, discounts, gift cards, credit cards, debit cards (cash handling) including counting money and returning accurate amounts to customer.
  • Completing various forms of paperwork, reports, and reconciliation
  • Be the keeper of merchandise, complete all inventory processes and make sure merchandise is properly checked in and accurately ticketed. (May participate in periodic inventories)
