About The Position

Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity ReStore is seeking a friendly, dependable, and customer-service oriented Sales Associate to join their team. The ReStores sell donated furniture, appliances, building materials, and home-improvement products, with revenue supporting affordable homeownership and community building. As a Sales Associate, you will create a welcoming shopping experience, assist customers, process purchases, and help maintain the sales floor. Opportunities for cross-training in merchandise, donations, and warehouse operations are available based on store needs.

Requirements

  • Available to work weekdays and weekends as needed.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience working directly with customers or the public.
  • Ability to accurately process transactions and handle money.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Ability to learn ReStore merchandise categories, pricing procedures and store departments.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees and volunteers.
  • Basic computer and point-of-sale system skills.
  • Commitment to the mission of Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity.
  • Ability to work a flexible retail schedule, including weekends, based on business needs.
  • Willingness to be cross-trained and assist with sales-floor, donation-processing and warehouse responsibilities.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 35 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • At least six months of retail, customer-service, cash-handling, bookkeeping or similar experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers and provide friendly, professional assistance.
  • Answer customer questions and provide information about merchandise, pricing and store policies.
  • Accurately process cash, credit, debit and other approved customer transactions.
  • Open, operate and balance an assigned cash register.
  • Verify merchandise descriptions, quantities and prices.
  • Prepare and organize receipts, payments and other transaction records.
  • Refer customer concerns to the appropriate manager when needed.
  • Assist with stocking, organizing and maintaining merchandise displays.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe and welcoming sales floor.
  • Assist with donation-processing and warehouse functions when assigned.
  • Work cooperatively and communicate professionally with employees and volunteers.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity and ReStore frequently asked questions.
  • Follow all cash-handling, loss-prevention, safety and customer-service procedures.
  • Represent Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity positively and professionally.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
