About The Position

Responsible for sales of agronomy input products and services for Heartland Co-op to production customers. This role involves making sales calls throughout an assigned territory to determine agronomy needs, create solutions, and build long-term relationships with customers, generating sales of seed, fertilizer, ag chemicals, and agronomy services. The position requires developing and maintaining a list of customers and prospects, utilizing marketing programs, and staying current on agronomic products and trends to make educated recommendations to producers. The Sales Agronomist will recommend and sell products and programs within company credit and pricing policies, relay competitive sales and marketing information to management, and communicate about products and producer issues. Planning and carrying out test plots will be used as a sales tool. A valid driver's license and commercial insurability are required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or four to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios.
  • Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing, accounting, and precision ag software.
  • Maintain a CCA certificate as well as any other appropriate certifications.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and commercial insurability at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Make sales calls throughout assigned territory to determine agronomy needs, create solutions and build long term relationships with customers that will generate sales of seed, fertilizer ag chemicals and agronomy services.
  • Develop and maintain a current list of customers and prospects and rate them based on potential size of operation, credit worthiness and other pertinent marketing information.
  • Utilize current marketing programs, products, services, and resources to sell agronomy products in an ethical manor.
  • Keep current on agronomic products, trends, problems and challenges to make educated recommendations to producers.
  • Recommends and sells products and programs to the producer within the company credit and pricing policies.
  • Relays competitive sales, pricing and marketing information to management in a timely manor.
  • Communicates with management about products being sold or prepaid and problems with products, programs, or producers.
  • Relays requested sales contact and other pertinent information to management.
  • Plans and carries out test plots at farms to demonstrate improved varieties of field crops such as corn and soybeans to use as a sales tool.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and commercial insurability at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management.
