About The Position

The Coach is employed as a Sailing Coach for NYCC’s 2026 Summer Sailing Program. This role involves delivering safe, fun, and developmentally appropriate sailing instruction while serving as a positive role model, mentor, and leader to youth sailors. The coach will also be responsible for maintaining equipment and facilities, adhering to NYCC policies, and ensuring all preparations are completed before the program start time.

Requirements

US Sailing Level 1 Instructor Certification (must hold or complete by June 1, 2026)
NASBLA-Approved Safe Powerboating Course (must hold or complete by June 1, 2026)
CPR and First Aid Certification (must hold or complete by June 1, 2026)
SafeSport Training (must hold or complete by June 1, 2026)
All required certifications must be kept current throughout the period of employment.
Proof of certification must be submitted prior to the start of training week.

Responsibilities

Deliver safe, fun, and developmentally appropriate sailing instruction.
Serve as a positive role model, mentor, and leader to youth sailors.
Communicate clearly and professionally with parents, sailors, and coworkers.
Maintain NYCC equipment and facilities in a respectful and organized manner.
Adhere to all NYCC policies and procedures outlined during training, while working and whenever representing NYCC.
Arrive by 8:30 AM daily to ensure all class preparations and lesson plans are completed prior to the 9:00 AM start time.
Responsible for checking fuel levels and refueling coach boats as needed.
Maintain cleanliness of coach boats daily and report any issues immediately.
Perform minor repairs on Optis and coach boats; report major repairs needed to the Sailing Director or Head Coach.
Greet sailors and their parents both in the morning and at dismissal in the afternoon.
Ensure all teaching materials, supplies, and safety equipment are prepared and onboard before class begins at 9:00 AM (prompt).
Wear a NYCC coach shirt (or sailing shirt) at all times and maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
Actively supervise sailors during the mid-day pool break to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.
