About The Position

Plans, organizes, and implements training programs for employees in assigned department to enhance employee education/skill level or may facilitate and implement safety-related training, inspections and programs that enhance the safety and health of employees. Provide the highest possible level of customer service by providing leadership to all COA CDL clients by coordinating all aspects of the CDL program including CDL classroom, road training, and testing preparation. This position is responsible for training, documenting, and reporting on all CDL testing results and COA customers served. This is an experienced, professional level capable of carrying out most assignments typical of the profession with limited guidance. Applicant should be self-motivated, who demonstrate the necessary knowledge, ability, and performance. Could be the only professional in this specialty in a work group.

Requirements

Associate’s degree
Must be 21 years or older
Valid class ‘A’ Georgia Commercial Driver’s License w/ all endorsements and/or a CDL Instructor’s certification.
3-4 years of experience as a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Instructor and/or Commercial Driver’s License Examiner/Tester experience.
Must have held a class ‘A’ Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for at least 4 years
Must have 3-5 years of mechanical and/or heavy equipment background
Be able to pass a drug screening, DOT physical vision test, basic health screening, and criminal background check with a clean motor vehicle driving record.
Must possess Microsoft Office skills
Good organizational and planning skills
Good math skills
Ability to stay current with certifications, governmental regulations, changes in City policy, training methods, equipment needs, budget, and departmental
Ability to assemble information and compile reports and documents
Ability to interpret and comply with federal and state regulations, laws, and procedures
Ability to use audio-visual (A/V) aids in presentations
Ability to communicate with employees at all levels

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s Degree
Completion of Technical or Vocational course of study in occupational health and safety with some of that related to safety and training
3-5 years of mechanical and/or heavy equipment background.

Responsibilities

Plans, organizes and implements CDL training for employees in assigned department to enhance employee work-related education/skill level
Facilitates and implements safety-related training, inspections, and programs that enhance the safety and health of employees
Conducts needs assessments to determine the type of training needed and plans, develops, and implements training and development programs based upon needs assessment
May provide instruction or identify other resources to teach the class
Performs safety inspections, accident investigations, and safety training
Performs safety analysis and report findings
Prepare and revise the CDL program training curriculum to comply with Federal and State regulations to maintain compliance
Coordinate and schedule road test examinations for the CDL program trainees
Maintain records of CDL trainees and report training results to the immediate supervisor
Provide an appropriate learning environment, including selecting, ordering, and maintaining educational supplies, materials, and equipment
