About The Position

The Safety Trainer supports the Safety Training Manager by delivering high-quality safety training programs for field employees and subcontractors. This role focuses on classroom and field-based instruction, reinforcing OSHA standards, company safety policies, and best practices for underground utility and civil construction work. The Safety Trainer plays a critical role in promoting compliance, hazard awareness, and safe job site behaviors through bilingual (English/Spanish) instruction.

Requirements

  • OSHA 30 certification required (construction).
  • Minimum 2–4 years of experience in construction safety, field operations, or safety training roles.
  • Proven experience conducting safety training in classroom and/or field settings in English or Spanish.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (verbal and instructional) required.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety principles, particularly excavation and trenching hazards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with field personnel at all levels.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to multiple job sites.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with trenching and excavation operations in utility or civil construction environments.
  • OSHA 510, OSHA 500, or progression toward additional safety certifications preferred.
  • Familiarity with underground utility work, traffic control, and 811 One Call processes.
  • First Aid / CPR certification a plus.
  • Experience working alongside safety leadership in a trainer or coordinator capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver safety training classes in English and Spanish for new hires, current employees, and subcontractors.
  • Support the Safety Training Manager in the implementation of company-wide safety training initiatives.
  • Conduct classroom and hands-on field training related to excavation, trenching, confined space, PPE, traffic control, equipment safety, and other.
  • Assist with daily toolbox talks, safety orientations, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
  • Reinforce Site-Specific Safety and Health Policies and Procedures (SSSPs) at active job sites.
  • Observe job site activities and provide real-time coaching to field personnel on safe work practices.
  • Assist with job site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and company safety standards.
  • Help maintain accurate training records, attendance logs, and safety documentation.
  • Support incident and near-miss investigations by gathering information and assisting with corrective action follow-up.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through daily engagement with supervisors, foremen, and crews.
  • Coordinate closely with the Safety Training Manager to identify training gaps and improvement opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the safety department.
