About The Position

The Safety Technician supports day-to-day Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) activities within a manufacturing operation. This hands-on role focuses on safety training, incident prevention, inspection readiness, incident documentation, and personal protective equipment (PPE) compliance. The Safety Technician works closely with operations leadership to maintain a safe workplace, reinforce safe behaviors, and ensure employees have the tools, training, and protective equipment needed to perform their work safely. This position offers strong growth potential for someone early in their safety career who is seeking increased responsibility over time.

Requirements

  • Health and safety knowledge with at least 1+ year of safety-related experience and/or education or training in a related discipline such as industrial hygiene, occupational safety, environmental health, or manufacturing safety.
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing plant, production facility, warehouse, or similar manufacturing environment.
  • Experience or familiarity with EHS practices, including safety procedures, occupational health principles, and safety training.
  • Ability to deliver safety onboarding and training sessions and speak comfortably in front of groups and teams.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain organized and accurate documentation for incidents, training, inspections, and PPE records.
  • Ability to perform routine inspections and spend regular time on the production floor, including standing, walking, and using stairs as needed.
  • Basic computer skills to manage training logs, incident documentation, PPE ordering records, and inspection checklists.
  • Knowledge of PPE requirements, safety compliance, and quality assurance practices within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting or participating in safety inspections, audits, and compliance tracking activities.

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification, or willingness to obtain one of these certifications.
  • Familiarity with common manufacturing hazards such as lockout/tagout (LOTO) awareness, machine guarding, forklifts, chemicals, hot work, and related risks.
  • Experience using checklists and logs for compliance tracking and documentation.
  • Bilingual communication skills, depending on workforce needs.
  • Background or education in industrial hygiene, occupational safety, environmental health, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated interest in building a long-term safety career with opportunities for internal growth and increasing responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate safety onboarding and training for new hires, ensuring all required sessions are completed and properly documented.
  • Facilitate routine safety prevention meetings, including toolbox talks, shift safety topics, and safety stand-downs, to keep safety top of mind for all employees.
  • Support and help coordinate Safety Prevention Day and other safety-focused events and initiatives that promote a strong safety culture.
  • Reinforce safety expectations on the production floor through daily interaction, coaching, and positive accountability with employees and supervisors.
  • Track and maintain accurate records for incidents, near misses, first aid cases, and injuries, including duration, days away, and restricted duty information as applicable.
  • Complete incident reports when injuries occur and assist with initial fact-finding, evidence gathering, and documentation of events.
  • Support the development and implementation of corrective actions and follow-up activities to prevent recurrence of incidents and near misses.
  • Own PPE readiness for the site by ordering, receiving, and maintaining PPE inventory to ensure availability for all employees.
  • Ensure employees have the proper PPE for their specific tasks and monitor PPE usage for compliance with safety requirements.
  • Escalate PPE compliance gaps appropriately and help standardize PPE usage and expectations across departments and areas.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and equipment checks, including fire extinguisher checks, safety shower readiness (if applicable), first aid kit stock and inspection, and other safety-related equipment.
  • Perform basic housekeeping and hazard spotting during walk-throughs, focusing on walkways, storage, guarding, signage, and other potential hazards.
  • Document findings from inspections and audits, communicate issues to appropriate stakeholders, and track closure of corrective actions.
  • Perform administrative and computer-based work related to training logs, incident documentation, PPE ordering records, and inspection checklists and tracking.
  • Spend regular time on the production floor to observe work practices, identify hazards, and support continuous improvement in safety performance.
