About The Position

The Safety Technician supports Environmental, Health and Safety programs and daily operations at JCB North America’s headquarters and manufacturing facilities in Pooler, Georgia. Working closely with the EHS Director, EHS Manager, EHS Specialist, operational leadership, and employees, this position helps promote a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible workplace. This role provides hands-on support for occupational safety, industrial hygiene, emergency preparedness, environmental compliance, incident prevention, and employee training. The Safety Technician maintains a visible presence throughout the facility, identifies and communicates potential hazards, assists with incident investigations, and helps ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustained. The successful candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, approachable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position requires the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the organization while maintaining consistent safety standards and reinforcing personal accountability.

Requirements

  • OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour General Industry training.
  • Associate Safety Professional, Graduate Safety Practitioner, Occupational Health and Safety Technologist, Certified Environmental and Safety Compliance Officer, or similar certification.
  • Powered industrial truck trainer or evaluator experience.
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
  • Hazardous-waste management or RCRA training.
  • HAZWOPER or emergency spill-response training.
  • Experience supporting environmental compliance programs within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 or environmental management systems.
  • Experience assisting with internal audits, regulatory inspections, or incident investigations.
  • Basic understanding of fire-protection systems, emergency-response equipment, and life-safety requirements.
  • Familiarity with EHS management software, learning-management systems, or electronic corrective-action tracking tools.
  • Must pass any drug screens, background checks, and any pre-employment tests, which will be conducted in accordance with applicable law.
  • Working knowledge of general industry safety principles and the ability to expand regulatory knowledge through ongoing training.
  • Basic understanding of environmental compliance requirements associated with manufacturing operations.
  • Ability to recognize workplace hazards and recommend practical corrective actions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day support for occupational safety and health programs applicable to a general industry manufacturing environment.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, review, and continuous improvement of EHS policies, procedures, programs, and work instructions.
  • Maintain a regular presence on the manufacturing floor to observe work practices, identify potential hazards, and provide timely guidance to employees and leaders.
  • Support programs related to hazard communication, personal protective equipment, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, powered industrial trucks, walking-working surfaces, electrical safety, ergonomics, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, emergency response, and other applicable safety requirements.
  • Assist departments in completing job hazard analyses, risk assessments, pre-task planning, and other proactive hazard-identification activities.
  • Support the selection, use, inspection, and maintenance of required personal protective equipment.
  • Promote employee engagement in safety programs, hazard reporting, near-miss reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor compliance with company safety requirements and communicate concerns to the appropriate employees, supervisors, and EHS leaders.
  • Provide technical safety and health guidance to employees, supervisors, managers, contractors, and visitors.
  • Support management in reinforcing safe work practices and addressing identified safety concerns.
  • Respond promptly to workplace incidents, near misses, first-aid cases, injuries, illnesses, environmental events, and property-damage incidents.
  • Support or lead incident investigations using a collaborative, team-based approach.
  • Gather and document relevant information, including employee statements, photographs, equipment conditions, work procedures, training records, and other supporting evidence.
  • Assist investigation teams in identifying immediate causes, contributing factors, and underlying root causes.
  • Develop, document, assign, and track corrective and preventive actions through completion.
  • Verify that corrective actions have been effectively implemented and are producing the intended results.
  • Review incident and near-miss trends to identify recurring concerns and opportunities for prevention.
  • Communicate investigation findings and lessons learned to the appropriate departments while maintaining required confidentiality.
  • Support return-to-work, injury-management, and restricted-duty processes as assigned.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate occupational safety records, logs, supporting documentation, and required reports.
  • Support OSHA 300 recordkeeping activities, including the maintenance of incident documentation and case information.
  • Assist the EHS team in preparing for regulatory inspections, internal reviews, customer audits, and third-party assessments.
  • Maintain organized EHS files and records in accordance with company requirements and applicable retention periods.
  • Track regulatory and program deadlines and communicate upcoming reporting, inspection, or renewal requirements.
  • Help ensure required EHS postings, signage, labels, permits, and emergency information remain accurate, current, and visible.
  • Support the collection and preparation of information used in regulatory submissions and leadership reports.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of employee medical, incident, and other sensitive EHS information.
  • Support compliance activities associated with stormwater, wastewater, spill prevention, hazardous waste, universal waste, air emissions, chemical management, and other applicable environmental programs.
  • Assist with environmental inspections, sampling coordination, documentation, and corrective-action tracking.
  • Support the completion and maintenance of documentation associated with NPDES, SPCC, RCRA, and applicable federal, state, and local environmental requirements.
  • Assist with required environmental reports and records, including Tier II, Toxic Release Inventory, discharge monitoring reports, hazardous-waste manifests, and other applicable documentation.
  • Conduct or support routine inspections of waste-storage areas, chemical-storage locations, stormwater controls, spill-response equipment, and other environmental compliance areas.
  • Assist with the proper identification, labeling, storage, handling, transportation, and documentation of hazardous and nonhazardous waste.
  • Support spill-prevention and spill-response activities, including inspections of response materials and coordination of appropriate corrective actions.
  • Help identify environmental risks and communicate concerns to EHS leadership and responsible departments.
  • Partner with employees and operational teams to support waste reduction, recycling, resource conservation, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the JCB North America environmental management system.
  • Assist with activities supporting ISO 14001 implementation and ongoing conformance.
  • Maintain environmental management system documentation, records, procedures, objectives, and action items.
  • Support internal audits, management-review activities, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Help departments understand their responsibilities within the environmental management system.
  • Assist with tracking environmental objectives, targets, performance indicators, and improvement plans.
  • Support the preparation and organization of documentation for internal and external assessments.
  • Conduct routine safety and environmental inspections throughout manufacturing, warehouse, maintenance, office, laboratory, and exterior work areas.
  • Document findings clearly and accurately, including identified hazards, responsible departments, recommended actions, and completion dates.
  • Communicate urgent hazards immediately to the appropriate leader and EHS team member.
  • Enter, assign, monitor, and close inspection and audit findings using established tracking systems.
  • Verify completion and effectiveness of corrective actions through follow-up inspections.
  • Participate in formal EHS audits and department-level safety reviews.
  • Analyze inspection findings to identify patterns, recurring hazards, and improvement opportunities.
  • Assist with contractor safety reviews and monitor contractor compliance while work is being performed on-site.
  • Support inspections of emergency equipment, eyewash stations, safety showers, fire extinguishers, first-aid supplies, spill kits, and other safety-related equipment.
  • Escalate conditions that present an immediate or significant risk in accordance with company procedures.
  • Assist with developing, coordinating, and delivering effective EHS training for employees, supervisors, contractors, and visitors.
  • Conduct powered industrial truck and forklift training, evaluations, and certification activities in accordance with company requirements.
  • Maintain accurate training attendance records, certifications, evaluation forms, and renewal dates.
  • Support new-hire orientation by communicating key EHS expectations, emergency procedures, reporting requirements, and safe work practices.
  • Deliver safety talks, toolbox topics, awareness campaigns, and refresher training based on operational needs and identified trends.
  • Help ensure training materials are current, understandable, and appropriate for the intended audience.
  • Coach employees on safe work practices and provide respectful, immediate feedback when unsafe conditions or behaviors are observed.
  • Encourage employee participation in safety committees, hazard-reporting programs, and EHS improvement activities.
  • Build positive relationships with employees and leaders to strengthen engagement and trust in the EHS function.
  • Support emergency response planning, drills, training, and documentation.
  • Assist with maintaining emergency action plans, evacuation maps, response procedures, and contact information.
  • Participate in fire, severe-weather, spill-response, medical-response, and evacuation drills.
  • Document drill results and track identified improvement actions.
  • Inspect and help maintain emergency-response supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with coordinating emergency response activities with Security, Facilities, Operations, and other internal teams.
  • Support the investigation and documentation of emergency events and drills.
  • Collect, organize, and review EHS data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist with the preparation of weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual EHS performance reports.
  • Track leading and lagging indicators, including incidents, near misses, observations, inspections, training completion, audit findings, and corrective actions.
  • Help identify trends and prepare clear summaries for EHS and operational leadership.
  • Maintain spreadsheets, databases, dashboards, action logs, and other EHS tracking tools.
  • Communicate overdue or unresolved actions to the appropriate leaders.
  • Support continuous improvement by using EHS data to identify recurring risks and recommend preventive actions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of company EHS policies, manufacturing processes, equipment, and workplace hazards.
  • Act as a positive and professional representative of the EHS department.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive information.
  • Participate in EHS meetings, safety committees, improvement projects, and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Support special projects, regulatory activities, and operational needs as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the EHS Director or EHS Manager.
