About The Position

This is a short-term assignment for an upcoming outage, performing duties in a manner that protects personal safety and the safety of all personnel on-site. The role involves promptly reporting Safety, Health, or Environmental incidents or issues to management for correction and attending monthly safety meetings to help prevent accidents. The position acts as a safety resource, providing solutions and input to address concerns and obstacles to safe work. It also involves assisting in accident investigations, the VPP process, and the development and revision of safety procedures and training materials. During emergencies, the individual will fill necessary functional needs and provide emergency HSE on-call coverage. The role also includes providing backup coverage for other department members during absences and maintaining the safety filing system.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
Requires skills necessary to educate and train employees in general health and safety principles and techniques.
Must be a self-starter, work well with others, ability to multitask, attention to detail, and good communication skills.
Must have a minimum of 3 years of field experience in industrial safety, health, and or fire protection systems
Successful candidates must satisfy background screening, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing & pre-employment physical requirements before starting work.
A current, valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required.
High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED), with additional specialized training or college course work and at least eleven (11) years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Valid Driver’s License as per State law or requirement.
Good interpersonal and communication skills required.
Knowledge/understanding of federal, state, and local company regulatory codes and requirements.
Ability to recognize hazardous situations and recommend corrective measures essential.
Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolding.
Ability to walk on even and uneven surfaces.
Ability to wear PPE including fire retardant clothing, hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, respirator.
Ability to enter confined spaces.
Ability to walk up to one mile on industrial plant and construction sites outdoors at any time of the year.
Ability to work in protective clothing which may elevate body temperatures by several degrees Fahrenheit for periods of up to 15 minutes without a break.
Ability to use multi-level stair towers and rung ladders unassisted.
Ability to hear safety alarms and signals while wearing hearing protection.
Ability to sit at desk and operate computer for extended periods of time.
Ability to stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk and hear.
Ability to see with visual acuity and distinguish between colors.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver’s license.
Ability to lift and carry 15 lbs. on a regular basis is required and at times lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.

Nice To Haves

Possession of a valid TWIC preferred.
Prefer qualified applicants to possess Safety Technician Training provided by Business Health Partners.

Responsibilities

Participates in the permitting process by being actively involved in the development of Work Permits, including sign-off responsibilities.
Participates in the Job Safety Analysis process and helps ensure completion of high quality and documented JSA’s.
Frequently conducts safe-work, system and work condition audits.
Inspects and maintains safety related and emergency response equipment in order to ensure accessibility and availability of safe reliable equipment.
Participates in Pre start-up Safety Reviews (PSSR’s).
Acts as safety resource to the various customers of the HSE Department by providing effective solutions, answers and inputs as necessary to address concerns and or obstacles to safe work.
Assist in accident, injury, near miss, and unsafe conditions investigations.
Assists in the VPP process.
Review and assists in changes to safety procedures and the roll out of new procedures.
Provide / assist with the delivery of safety related training to the client’s employees and contractors as needed.
Provide backup coverage and perform first responder duties as allowable up to individual qualifications when needed.
During an emergency, fill functional needs necessary for the complex to address the situation in a safe and efficient manner.
Assume duties of other Department members as needed during sickness, vacation, and other departmental absences.
Provide emergency HSE on-call coverage for the Complex.
Assist in maintaining the Safety filing system by ensuring files are maintained in accordance with the central file index.
Assist in developing and revising HSE procedures.
Conduct regular walk-through inspections of construction areas.
Identify, document, and recommend resolution of hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions; follow through to ensure corrections have been made.
Investigate personal injury and property damage accidents.
Compile data, photographs, etc. Prepare all pertinent forms and reports per program procedures and federal, state, and local regulations associated with accidents.
Conduct various industrial hygiene samplings, such as gas, oxygen, noise tests, to ensure safe working conditions.
Prepare training/procedures for client approval.
Conduct training for employees.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
