About The Position

The Safety Specialist is responsible for coordinating and conducting training activities at all locations for MSHA, OSHA, and SGI training requirements. This role involves developing new training materials, scheduling and conducting Industrial Hygiene sampling, and working with plants to develop and update Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), or Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (FMEAs). The specialist will also facilitate MSHA training, manage MSDS and MSHA Citation databases, and ensure compliance with all regulatory and SGI requirements. Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in related field preferred or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years experience or equivalent demonstrating strong results in Safety program implementation and training programs
  • Strong understanding of MSHA regulations relating to manufacturing environment
  • Ability to Make Oral Presentations
  • Travel – Domestic 70%

  • Ability to manage fluid travel schedule and be flexible as necessary
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without need for employer-sponsored visa (work permit).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating and conducting training activities at all locations for MSHA, OSHA, and SGI training requirements.
  • Developing new training materials for all Part 46 training requirements and other training as required.
  • Scheduling and conducting Industrial Hygiene sampling at all locations per the SGI IH sampling plan.
  • Working with plants to develop new and update existing JSAs, SOPs, or FMEAs.
  • Facilitating MSHA training, MSDS, and MSHA Citation databases and updating reporting structures to ensure compliance with all regulatory and SGI requirements.
  • Scheduling and conducting New Miner Training for all plants through either on-site training or Adobe Connect sessions.
  • Scheduling and conducting Annual Refresher training for all plants through on-site courses.
  • Conducting Task training classes as coordinated through plants.
  • Developing a task training database/spreadsheet for mobile equipment and operations.
  • Conducting IH sampling at all plants based on the SGI IH sampling plan distributed by Corporate.
  • Working with plants/training teams to develop task training materials for all required task training.
  • Coordinating and developing an MSDS database for all plants to ensure the database is current and accessible.
  • Conducting contractor audits during site visits to ensure compliance with the SGI Contractor Safety Handbook.
  • Working with plants to schedule Examinetics annual medical testing and ensuring retests and notifications are completed timely.
  • Coordinating and managing the database for all SGI MSHA required training and developing a process for plants to receive and access current information.
