About The Position

Monitor field activities, provide feedback, and recommend practices and procedures to support the safety and risk management programs. This role involves promoting safe work practices and regulatory compliance, performing safety inspections, monitoring hazard assessments, and investigating incidents to identify contributing factors and root causes. The Safety Specialist will also conduct safety training, support a safety culture, and ensure the availability of safety equipment.

Requirements

  • At least one year of construction safety, construction safety training, or a role performing construction.
  • A related bachelor’s degree or two years of construction safety experience.
  • Valid Texas driver license with satisfactory driving record.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of construction related OSHA, federal, and state regulatory standards.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction safety equipment.
  • Advanced ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures.
  • Proficient in using MS Outlook, Word, and basic Excel.
  • Skilled in gathering and analyzing information to resolve problems promptly.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability and commitment to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to effectively manage electronic and physical files.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities and use time efficiently.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness
  • Ability to monitor own work and that of others to ensure compliance.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment, manage work demands, and deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Ability to follow and provide oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and solicit feedback to improve performance.
  • Ability and commitment to meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a safety professional (CSP, CSHO, or other related certification).
  • Certified OSHA trainer.
  • Experience using HCSS Safety, or a similar safety management system.

Responsibilities

  • Promote safe work practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform safety inspections at job sites and work locations in assigned areas, walking full job sites, providing feedback and ensuring deficiencies are corrected.
  • Monitor, report, and ensure completion of hazard assessment and prevention activities.
  • Order suspension of activities that pose threats to workers’ health and safety.
  • Conduct safety training and demonstrations.
  • Thoroughly investigate safety and property incidents to assist in identifying contributing factors and root causes, and to prevent repeated unsafe practices.
  • Review, evaluate, and analyze work environments to recommend practices and procedures to control, eliminate, and / or prevent occupational injuries and illnesses, property damage, and general liability claims.
  • Support a safety culture by anticipating problems, providing solutions, sharing knowledge, and through interactions with management and field employees.
  • Partner with field operations and Company management to integrate safety processes, practices, goals, and resources with Company strategies in support of a safety culture.
  • Ensure the availability of safety prevention and response equipment and supplies.
  • Provide post-investigation recommendations for corrective measures and escalate as needed to ensure that agreed-upon corrective actions occur.
