About The Position

The Safety Specialist will be responsible for providing technical expertise to promote and maintain a safety healthy and secure environment of care at Children's Minnesota (Children's MN). This individual will work with staff within all levels of the organization to support our ESS program and organizational ESS goals. The role will help ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, such as OSHA, EPA, MPCA, local county regulations, and promote a proactive environmental and safety culture across Children's MN. The role requires a detail-oriented person with strong analytical skills and a passion for creating a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Associates degree in a relevant field such as Environmental Science or Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Three (3) years experience in environmental, health, safety and sustainability, preferably in a health facility setting.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, MPCA, DOT and other local regulations.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proficiency with EHS software.
  • Familiarity with and commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles in partnership design and execution
  • Strategic and systems-level thinker with the ability to see the big picture while providing detailed execution
  • Skilled in collaborating across matrixed environments, with the ability to influence without direct authority
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills; capable of engaging senior leaders and external contractors in high-impact conversations
  • Proficient in data collection and analysis utilizing the Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Accountable, adaptive, and comfortable working in fast-paced, dynamic environments

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant certifications are beneficial.
  • Experience with workers' compensation is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain environmental and safety policies to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Inspect workplaces, identify hazards, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Provide safety training to employees and management.
  • Investigate incidents to determine root causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Analyze safety data, track KPIs, and report findings.
  • Coordinate emergency response plans and drills.
  • Manage waste programs according to regulations.
  • Collaborate with other teams to integrate regulatory and best management practices.
