About The Position

Kokosing is seeking a Safety Specialist to provide field support services and assist managers, supervisors, and team members with the implementation of Company and Client Safety and Health policies and procedures. This role focuses on regulatory compliance and continuous improvement of overall performance, aligning with the Company’s Core Values. The position will support a large data center project in Lebanon, IN.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Safety and Health or equivalent combinations of technical training and experience.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and EPA regulations, as well as other state/federal safety regulations and company safety policies/procedures.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate and interface effectively with company and private client representatives.
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to independently prioritize.
  • Ability to think independently, communicate thoroughly, and influence the implementation of appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
  • Ability to work in a high production environment (50+ hours/week, including nights and weekends) and respond quickly and effectively under pressure and deadlines.
  • Ability to make independent judgments to manage and facilitate company programs/policies related to safety.
  • Ability to positively interact and influence front-line supervisors and field personnel to create a safe work environment.
  • BCSP Certification required (ASP, CSP, or CHST).
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in heavy civil/industrial construction such as highways, bridges, underground utilities, water/wastewater facilities, and marine construction.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
  • OSHA 30-Hour and 10-Hour Trainer certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and implementing strategies for reducing and eliminating injuries, illnesses, and other incidents to achieve business unit targets.
  • Provide training and education to Company personnel on safety and health requirements.
  • Support pre-job safety planning meetings to identify potential hazards and develop emergency response plans.
  • Develop work safety and health plans in a fast-paced environment.
  • Initiate, coordinate, and lead safety meetings and training programs.
  • Independently initiate, perform, and document safety and health audits, evaluations, inspections, and behavioral observations.
  • Communicate and facilitate the implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
  • Assist in the investigation of injury, illness, and general liability incidents.
  • Develop and issue regular safety and health correspondence.
  • Provide updated information to team members regarding changes in company or regulatory requirements.
  • Identify team members needing assistance, training, or support with safety and health requirements.
  • Coordinate project safety programs with subcontractors, vendors, and third-party personnel.
  • Serve as a point of contact for federal, state, or municipal safety or risk management authorities when the Company Safety Manager is unavailable.
