About The Position

This is a full-time position for a Safety Specialist on the 3rd shift at Rightway Fasteners, Inc. in Columbus, IN. The role involves maintaining safety policies, procedures, and work processes, including 5S standards. Responsibilities include managing files, maintaining eyewash stations, stocking first aid and blood kits, and ensuring dispensers for earplugs and safety glasses are stocked. The specialist will also manage fire extinguishers, provide minor first aid, and maintain a safety presence on the floor. Additional duties include severe weather standby, conducting fire and severe weather drills, fostering a "Safety First" environment, ensuring PPE compliance, conducting incident investigations and safety walk-throughs, and coordinating programs for safety shoes and prescription safety glasses. The role also involves maintaining Safety Data Sheets (SDS), assisting with SDS updates, creating and maintaining visual aids, performing audits of chemical labeling, drafting updates for safety documents, maintaining safety brochures and PowerPoint presentations, and undertaking miscellaneous safety projects as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all 5S and safety policies, procedures, and work processes.
  • Maintain files and file records properly, timely, and neatly.
  • Maintain eyewash stations by flushing them and cleaning basins.
  • Stock first aid kits and blood kits.
  • Maintain clean outer surfaces of first aid kits and blood kits.
  • Stock ear plug dispensers.
  • Stock safety glasses.
  • Manage fire extinguishers.
  • Provide minor first aid as needed.
  • Maintain a safety presence on the floor.
  • Perform severe weather standby duties, including monitoring weather stations and radio, and unlocking the shelter door.
  • Conduct fire and severe weather drills on shift.
  • Create and maintain a “Safety First” environment on shift.
  • Ensure PPE compliance.
  • Conduct incident investigations.
  • Perform safety walk-throughs.
  • Coordinate the safety shoes program by obtaining approved forms for employees.
  • Coordinate the prescription safety glasses program by obtaining approved forms.
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Assist the Safety Assistant Manager and Director with maintaining the SDS.
  • Perform audits of chemical labeling.
  • Draft updates for safety documents.
