About The Position

The Safety Specialist supports day‑to‑day plant operations by implementing safety and health programs focused on injury prevention, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. This role works closely with facility leadership to ensure a safe work environment and adherence to OSHA and company standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 5 years of full‑time safety experience or 10 years of industry experience with safety responsibilities
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health & Safety Technologist (OHST), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or ability to obtain certification
  • Previous power plant safety and health experience
  • Valid state driver’s license
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and regulatory requirements
  • Understanding of Process Safety Management (PSM)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of OSHA electrical generation and power distribution standards
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to lead safety committees and sub‑committees
  • Effective public speaking skills
  • Basic understanding of occupational health and industrial hygiene principles
  • Ability to interact positively with regulatory agencies
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to compile, analyze, and interpret data; produce detailed reports
  • Understanding of human behavior factors related to safety
  • Ability to conduct incident investigations and root cause analyses
  • Strong prioritization skills in a fast‑paced environment
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, bend, kneel, crawl, push/pull, and lift up to 25 lbs
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors, including adverse conditions
  • Ability to wear job‑related PPE
  • Ability to work at heights above 100’ and enter confined spaces

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial safety, health, or related field
  • SGE (Special Government Employee Program) experience with site audits
  • VPP (Voluntary Protection Program) champion experience

Responsibilities

  • Promote a strong safety culture by influencing and motivating employees to work safely
  • Communicate safety requirements clearly across all levels of the organization
  • Coordinate and implement compliance with OSHA and company safety standards
  • Execute the company’s Safety & Health Management Program and ensure alignment with OSHA, client procedures, and regulatory agencies
  • Partner with facility management on regulatory interpretation, reporting, and compliance
  • Conduct internal safety audits and routine inspections to verify compliance
  • Investigate accidents and incidents; recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Evaluate safety program effectiveness and collaborate with management on improvements
  • Develop, evaluate, and assist in delivering safety training programs
  • Support safety committee activities, including agendas, minutes, and charter management
