About The Position

LCRA is seeking an experienced Safety Specialist to support the safe operations at our power generation facility in Bastrop, Texas. This position is ideal for a safety professional with experience in power generation, chemical manufacturing, or other high-hazard industrial environments. We are a team that enjoys building relationships, partnering with operations, and making a meaningful impact on the people we support. As part of LCRA's Generation & Telecom Safety Team, you will join a strong, experienced group of safety professionals who work collaboratively to support our operations across Texas. While you will provide direct safety and health support to employees, contractors, and the leadership Team at the Bastrop facility, you will also contribute to and benefit from the knowledge, experience, and teamwork of a larger safety organization. A successful candidate will combine strong technical safety expertise with the ability to engage employees at all levels and influence positive change. Requirements

  • Six or more years of experience in safety and health, utility safety to include water, gas operations, energy generation, electric utility transmission and distribution operations or other relevant experience.
  • Experience must include at least two or more years of direct safety team experience within an organization to include experience with administration, oversight or applying work safety practices, policies and procedures.
  • Experience must include at least three years of experience with ANSI, OSHA 1910/1926.269, IEEE C95.6-2002, DOT standards and applicable work practices and safety policies.
  • A degree(s) in industrial maintenance, electrical systems, occupational safety and health, public health or related field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
  • Driver's license

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors degree or greater in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or similar.
  • One of the following certification(s) in the field of occupational safety: ASP, CSP, CIH, CHST, or OHST.
  • Safety experience in a power generation facility to include combine cycle, coal, or gas generation experience or chemical plant experience
  • Experience in at least one of the following fields: power generation, transmission, manufacturing, chemical, oil & gas, or construction.

Responsibilities

  • Be a safety and health resource LCRA staff to the Generation Operations.
  • Provide daily on-site safety support with strong interpersonal skills to engage with people.
  • Lead incident investigations, tracking, and reporting.
  • Conduct safety orientations, safety training, and monthly safety meetings.
  • Participate in the research, development, and implementation of safety policies and procedures.
  • Prepare health and safety plans for LCRA projects and outages.
