About The Position

UPMC Washington is seeking a Safety Sitter to ensure the safety of patients and those around them. This role requires a passion for safety and patient care, acting as a guardian and protector. The ideal candidate will demonstrate good judgment, effective communication, and the ability to handle sensitive situations with diplomacy and confidence.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED.
BLS-Basic Life Support Certification required, but will provide training if necessary.
Aggression management, physical comfort and monitoring safety.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience working with behavioral health patients is preferred.

Responsibilities

Assists and shows good judgment in analyzing problems and taking appropriate action in both routine and emergency situations.
Communicates effectively and appropriately, using good judgment as to what to communicate to whom as well as the best way to get that accomplished.
Handles sensitive or difficult issues with diplomacy and confidence.
Remains objective in the face of strong emotions, acknowledging them without being unduly influenced by their intensity.
Practices within scope of licensure, certification, and/or job description.
Takes personal responsibility for patient care and safety.
Complies with National Patient Safety Goals and other regulatory standards.
Includes safety assessments and planning for all activities and services being provided. Speaks up, and encourages patients and family members to do likewise, if safety is a concern.
Promptly reports safety risks and takes appropriate action to reduce these risks.
Maintains an uninterrupted line of sight with the patient at all times.
Reports any activity outside of established parameters to assigned RN.
Provides comfort measures to patient as needed to assure safety; e.g. additional pillow placement, drink of water as appropriate, repositioning of extremities on request, etc.
