About The Position

The Safety & Security Summer Intern will be responsible for assisting the Director of Safety and Security with a wide range of experiences and tasks relating to the safety and security of Framingham Public Schools. The student interns hired for this position should expect to gain invaluable skills and knowledge relating to safety and security in a school system. Additionally, the intern will support projects directed by the Director of Safety and Security. Requirements

  • Demonstrate a strong interest in Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Information Security, or a related field.
  • Ability to take direction and feedback well, adjusting effectively and independently.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, paired with strong interpersonal and customer service abilities.
  • Ability to speak to parents and co-workers using clear, appropriate, and professional language.
  • Ability to operate and/or acquire skills to operate a computer and related software, including but not limited to the Google Suite.
  • Highly motivated, creative, displaying a high degree of maturity, integrity, and capability to work independently to support district needs.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, caregivers, staff, and the community.
  • Work with individuals and families of diverse backgrounds in an equitable, inclusive, and culturally proficient manner.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance to ensure consistent department operations and district-wide support.
  • React professionally and objectively to unpredictable situations, such as behavioral issues or environmental changes, while maintaining a proactive, reflective, and solution-focused approach.
  • Work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage several projects simultaneously while maintaining strong organizational skills to balance the demands of a multi-tasking position.
  • Perform duties with awareness of district requirements, state and federal laws, and Framingham Public Schools policies.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of proprietary and sensitive student/employee records in accordance with FERPA/603 CMR 28.00.

Nice To Haves

  • Practical, hands-on experience in security operations, safety compliance, or emergency services is preferred.
  • Candidates who bring perspectives from non-traditional educational backgrounds or an understanding of underrepresented experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in team projects and activities as assigned.
  • Follow the District safety and security policies and procedures to ensure a clean, safe, and secure environment.
  • Assist the Director of Safety and Security with all capital projects and day-to-day Safety & Security operations.
  • Identify hazardous work procedures or conditions and promptly report them to the Director of Safety and Security.
  • Assist the Director of Safety and Security during emergency situations, such as fires, evacuations, floods, severe weather, bomb threats, or natural disasters.
  • Help conduct access control audits and assist with the monitoring of the District's CCTV programs.
  • Assist the Director of Safety and Security in completing incident reports to document all safety-related incidents (e.g., theft, accidents, physical hazards, and fire alarms).
  • Assist in conducting interviews with relevant parties to obtain statements and information related to incidents, ensuring proper paperwork and notifications are distributed.
  • Maintain appropriate tracking, resolution, and documentation for district safety needs, ensuring compliance with proprietary confidentiality limits.
  • Support all co-workers and treat them with dignity and respect; develop and maintain positive and productive working relationships with other departments.
  • Prepare, review, proofread, and edit written documents (e.g., business letters, memoranda, reports) to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Answer telephones using appropriate etiquette, prioritizing rapid response and professionalism.
  • Other duties as assigned.
