About The Position

This position supports the Safety Manager in various safety-related functions within the shipyards. The Safety Representative performs safety activities on Company property to evaluate, identify, and correct potential safety issues. This role requires regular attendance, the ability to work flexible hours including overtime, weekends, and holidays, and strict compliance with company, Federal, State, and local safety, ethics, and environmental rules, regulations, and policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalence plus one year of safety experience in a manufacturing or construction environment desired.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of ship terminology, safety, and OSHA regulations is desired.
  • Shipyard Competent Person Certification is required.
  • Completion of First Aid and CPR training desired.
  • Basic level Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, Company policies/ procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors and employees.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Integrity, ethics, flexibility/ adaptability, initiative, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, safety consciousness, and multitasking.
  • Maintain the confidential integrity of details pertaining to Eastern Shipbuilding Group.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license is required.
  • Must be physically and medically qualified to wear all required personal protective equipment, as prescribed under Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Must be able to work above ground at heights of a minimum of 50 feet aloft and/or working from scaffolding and/or man-lifts while working with machinery; in confined spaces and withstanding extreme heat and cold in an outside climate or confined space.

Nice To Haves

  • Advance knowledge of safety (minimum 18 months of safety experience) and knowledge of fire or medical (preferred).
  • Including a type of certification or medical/fire class.
  • Advanced computer skills, including word, Excel.
  • Holds teamwork and consistency in high regard
  • Solid foundational knowledge of safety (minimum 12 months of safety experience) and fire or medical(preferred).
  • Due to the need for medical professionals, experience may be substituted
  • Solid computer knowledge, including word, Excel.
  • Safety Competent Person trained.
  • Knowledge of ship terminology, safety, and OSHA regulations is desired.
  • Completion of First Aid and CPR training desired.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect designated workplace areas.
  • Assist in enforcing the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety equipment.
  • Assist in the issuance and monitoring of hot work permits, confined space entries, and lockout/tag-out permits.
  • Administer first aid as needed.
  • Conduct Safety Orientation.
  • Administer post-accident/near-miss drug tests as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
