About The Position

Orange County Human Resources Department is accepting applications for a Safety Officer. The work involves the responsibility of supporting the Countywide Enterprise Risk Management, Insurance and Safety Programs. The employee in this role is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering comprehensive safety initiatives designed to identify, evaluate, control, and reduce the County’s exposure to potential loss or liability under the guidance of the Safety and Risk Management Director. Duties include ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, administering OSHA and other mandated safety training. Additionally, this role will oversee the County’s ADA program, MVR program, Drug and Alcohol program and assist the Safety and Risk Management Director in incident investigations and claims management. Work is performed under the general direction of the Safety and Risk Management Director, under the Human Resources Department, with substantial independence in planning, decision-making, and carrying out assignments within established policies, procedures, and regulatory frameworks. Supervision over others is not a responsibility of this class, but may act as lead over safety projects. Related work is performed as assigned. Background Check is required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in risk management, industrial safety, occupational health and safety, or a closely related field.
  • Three (3) years of work experience in the administration of insurance, risk management safety and loss control programs.
  • At least three (3) years of public sector experience.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Successful clearance of a background check.
