About The Position

Arlington County's Department of Human Resources is seeking a Safety & Occupational Health Program Manager to independently lead the development, implementation, and administration of County-wide occupational safety and health (OSHA/VOSH) policies and programs. Operating under general direction with broad latitude, this highly autonomous role serves as a subject matter expert tasked with managing programs designed to prevent injury, reduce liability, and minimize property damage.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in developing and managing comprehensive occupational safety and health programs.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA and VOSH regulations and standards.
  • Experience in risk assessment, accident investigation, and program evaluation.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
  • Experience in a government or public sector setting.
  • Experience with safety management software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and administer County-wide occupational safety and health (OSHA/VOSH) policies and programs.
  • Manage programs designed to prevent injury, reduce liability, and minimize property damage.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in occupational safety and health.
  • Provide guidance and support to County departments on safety and health matters.
  • Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs.
  • Stay current with relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in occupational safety and health.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations for management.
