About The Position

Herzog Energy Inc. is currently seeking a Safety Manager in Town of Burns, NY to join our team. This role serves as the project's full-time, dedicated on-site Safety/EHSS Manager, providing leadership and oversight of the Project Health, Safety and Security Program in accordance with Herzog, AES, regulatory, permit, and project-specific requirements. The position involves implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving the project Health, Safety and Security Plan, including policies, procedures, training, emergency preparedness, incident management, documentation, and compliance tracking. The Safety Manager will conduct routine field inspections, site walks, safety observations, and leadership engagements to identify and address hazards. This role also includes leading and reviewing JHAs/JSAs, pre-task planning, and risk assessments, exercising Competent Person and Stop Work authority, and leading employee and supervisor orientation, training, safety meetings, coaching, and mentoring. Regular engagement in Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors, along with regular and predictable attendance and punctuality, are requirements for this position. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of qualifying power-generation construction EHSS experience and/or power-plant construction, oil and gas, or chemical EHSS experience, consistent with the AES EHSS Manager requirement reflected in the current position description.
  • Demonstrated construction safety-management experience with the ability to independently lead a large, multi-employer project safety program.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA construction standards and applicable federal, state, local, owner, contractual, and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience with JHAs/JSAs, risk assessments, field inspections, incident investigations, training, corrective actions, emergency preparedness, and subcontractor oversight.
  • Strong leadership, communication, coaching, mentoring, conflict-resolution, and decision-making skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across multiple levels of the project organization.
  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine field inspections, site walks, safety observations, and leadership engagements; identify existing and predictable hazards and ensure prompt corrective action.
  • Lead and review JHAs/JSAs, pre-task planning, and risk assessments, with particular attention to high-risk activities and changing work conditions.
  • Exercise Competent Person and Stop Work authority, including requiring corrective action and addressing serious or repeated violations in accordance with project requirements.
  • Lead and support employee and supervisor orientation, training, safety meetings, coaching, and mentoring, ensuring safety information is effectively communicated to the workforce.
  • Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
