About The Position

MV Transportation is seeking a Safety Manager who will be a hands-on manager helping implement programs and procedures in compliance with State and Federal regulations and corporate and client policies. This role is accountable for the leadership of Drive Cam and OSHA/CDL at the division level, setting the tone for ensuring all operators are current with training requirements of company and contract. The Safety Manager ensures all safety manuals, programs, policies, and practices are current and meet the needs of the operating divisions. They serve as the expert in EPA and OSHA, CDL compliance and regulations, and ensure all new hires meet minimum general qualifications for each division, including background and DMV checks. This role also ensures safety technology tools are utilized, results are examined, trend data is analyzed, and plans are developed to reduce and prevent future safety incidents. The Safety Manager oversees Corporate Safety Incentives and programs, ensuring they are managed effectively and consistently, including the assignment of Safety Points. They foster a consistent Safety Culture throughout the locations, integrating operations, safety, and maintenance departments, emphasizing a team approach and individual responsibility to achieve common goals. The role oversees the successful completion of all related audits, including those conducted by corporate and client staff, and by state and federal regulatory agencies. The Safety Manager leads the division in safety organization for classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction according to corporate and client specifications in all aspects of vehicle operation for passenger transportation. This includes defensive driving, service area familiarization, passenger loading, unloading and securement, proper manifest documentation, use of on-board equipment, accident and emergency procedures, dispatch and radio communications, and passenger sensitivity. They review the reporting of all vehicular, passenger, and employee accidents/incidents to determine cause and preventability, identifying potential trends for future training efforts. Additionally, the Safety Manager provides functional expertise in safety regarding the hiring of safety department exempt employees and ensures that all project training materials are up-to-date, necessary supplies are available, and inventories are secured and kept up-to-date.

Requirements

  • Minimum five years of recent experience managing paratransit safety/training programs or similar position (a similar position would be a manager overseeing safety and training programs for demand respond or fixed route passenger transportation including lift and or ramp use, and knowledge of regulatory requirements to assure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws for operating demand-response transportation services (e.g., FTA, DOT, ADA and drug and alcohol, DOJ Title VI, and state DOT regulations)).
  • Knowledge of safety programs, policies, and practices.
  • Ability to develop and implement a safety and training program.
  • Possess a valid, unexpired CDL with passenger endorsement.
  • One-year accident/injury-free driving experience.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess excellent communication and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Extended transportation experience.
  • Computer experience.
