About The Position

HazTek is seeking an experienced Safety Manager near Houston, TX to lead safety operations for a data center project. This role is critical in ensuring OSHA compliance, implementing best safety practices, and fostering a culture where every worker goes home safe. The Safety Manager will oversee construction safety performance across active-facility projects, identify and assess high-risk activities, and review MOPs and other high-risk work plans. This position involves planning and overseeing controlled and permit-required activities, evaluating contractor safety plans and incident reports, and tracking corrective actions. The role also includes analyzing safety trends, participating in safety planning meetings, collaborating with various teams, and providing owner-side safety guidance. Daily safety observations and audits will be conducted to identify hazards and deficiencies, ensuring compliance with zero-tolerance policies and maintaining necessary documentation.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years of direct construction experience in a leadership role, with 3+ years on data center or mission-critical facility projects
  • Active BCSP certification required (CHST certification highly preferred)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in a safety related field preferred
  • OSHA 510 and or OSHA 500 is a plus
  • Owner's Representative (Owner's Rep) experience highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee construction safety performance across active-facility projects
  • Identify and assess high-risk activities before work begins, supporting comprehensive hazard identification and risk planning with appropriate coordination
  • Review MOPs and other high-risk work plans for appropriate safety controls, sequencing, emergency planning, and potential operational impacts.
  • Plan and oversee all controlled and permit-required activities, including but not limited to energized work, hot work, lifting and rigging operations, confined space work, excavation and trenching
  • Evaluate contractor safety plans, incident reports, near-miss reports, and corrective actions to ensure completeness, accuracy, and full alignment with project safety requirements
  • Track corrective and preventive actions through closure and verify field implementation where appropriate.
  • Analyze recurring safety observations, leading and lagging indicators, incident trends, and contractor performance to identify areas requiring additional attention.
  • Participate in preconstruction, kickoff, and safety-planning meetings to communicate owner safety expectations and upcoming risk considerations.
  • Collaborate regularly across teams including but not limited to contractor safety representatives, project leadership, and other stakeholders regarding safety performance and upcoming work.
  • Provide owner-side safety guidance and oversight while maintaining clear accountability boundaries between the contractor
  • Conduct daily safety observations and audits to identify safety hazards, equipment deficiencies, and areas requiring corrective action
  • Monitor compliance with project's zero-tolerance policies, escalating repeated or serious violations
  • Maintain records of site visits, observations, incidents, inspections, and all other necessary documentation
