About The Position

The Safety Manager (Mission Critical) serves in a dual role. Initially, they operate in a consultative capacity, providing expert support, guidance, and motivation to operations management and employees at all levels. Additionally, they act as a hands-on partner in delivering various safety initiatives and programs to foster a safety culture, supporting the goal of Incident and Injury Free operations. This role champions the Incident & Injury Free culture, leads and coordinates safety initiatives for a geographic region, and drives communication, planning, implementation, supervision, and measurement in compliance with corporate safety standards, OSHA, and other federal and state regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in an Occupational Safety and Health discipline (e.g., OS&H Management, Human Factors, Construction) from a four-year college or university.
  • A minimum of 2-5 years direct experience in Construction Safety and Occupational Health disciplines.
  • Must hold a Professional Certificate (e.g., CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, or CUSP).
  • Ability to identify potential safety hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm for contributing to a positive and inclusive work environment and aptitude to “sell” safety programs to field personnel.
  • Knowledge of construction safety, current Federal, and OSHA requirements.
  • Excels at time management and prioritization, consistently meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to recognize discrepancies and effectively communicate solutions.
  • Possesses a strong sense of responsibility and accountability for assigned tasks and projects.
  • The ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications.
  • Able to pass a background check for sensitive work functions at our nation’s airports, transportation systems and utility grid systems.
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Champion the organization’s IIF Culture and focus efforts on improving defenses to control exposure and systematic integration of human performance principles.
  • Provide management with effective safety coaching, counseling, and advice, ensuring both deliver a safe and efficient work environment for all employees, customers, and the public.
  • Partner with operations and Talent Management to ensure specific safety training is conducted based on scope of work.
  • Provide safety expertise, ensuring the most relevant and effective internal and external safety practices are used and implemented in the course of delivering work.
  • Review each subcontractor’s safety program and ensure that it meets or exceeds the Project Safety Program requirements.
  • Review and conduct mini-gap analyses on current safety policies, procedures and standards and provide recommendations for change to help drive continuous improvement.
  • Conduct site visits to monitor and assess the execution of the organization’s safety management system.
  • Assist in preparation for monthly Craft Voice In Safety (CVIS) meetings and help drive continuous improvement within the corrective actions process.
  • Conduct incident investigations and verify corrective actions are being implemented and sustained in the field.
  • Conduct core, division-specific, and subcontractor safety orientations as requested.
  • Support project teams by participating in the Project Kick Off Meetings and working with them to develop a safe plan of execution.
  • Assign and communicate expectations for all aspects of the safety program, so that all project employees have clear expectations for safety and performance.
  • Ensure that toolbox talk topics are carefully selected and applicable to the work.
  • Verify that all safety documentation is being captured, organized, and filed at the jobsite.
  • Travel to multiple projects to provide support to management.
