About The Position

Wharton-Smith, Inc., a highly regarded General Contractor throughout the Southeast, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Safety Manager. We are currently seeking someone who is willing to work in our Jackson, MS region. This role serves as a primary safety resource for jobsites in the Jackson, MS area, focusing on water and commercial projects. The Safety Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing safety training programs, conducting safety assessments, and ensuring compliance with all relevant standards. Additionally, the role involves assisting project management with safety plans, coaching team members on safety practices, and conducting incident investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the safety resource for jobsites in Jackson, MS for water and commercial projects.
  • Develop and implement current safety training programs as required, including Competent Person classes.
  • Identify safety training needs and provide safety training as appropriate.
  • Conduct project pre-construction meetings and review site-specific safety plans.
  • Conduct safety assessments to track trends and ensure compliance with company, Federal, and State regulatory standards.
  • Assist Project Management in developing site-specific safety plans.
  • Coach project team members on safety leadership & management practices.
  • Review Safety Task Assessment (STA) to provide feedback for improvement.
  • Conducts equipment training and evaluations.
  • Deliver reports.
  • Conduct documented safety walks when visiting jobs via KPA EHS software.
  • Conduct incident investigations to prevent future occurrences.
  • Assist injured employees in managing risk.
  • Set up clinics and hospitals before the job starts.
