About The Position

West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. is a Canadian gold exploration and development company focused on restarting and expanding the historic Madsen Gold Mine in the Red Lake District of Northwestern Ontario. The company is also developing nearby high-grade deposits to support future growth. With modern infrastructure and a strong technical team, West Red Lake is committed to operational excellence, sustainable mining practices, and long-term success as it moves toward steady commercial production. Reporting to the Safety Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that best practices are followed to help mitigate accidents, and for ensuring that all works follow the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations at West Red Lake Madsen Mine. This position is a 14/14 rotation with flights and camp provided.

Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma, or a minimum of 5-10 years of underground mining experience working in various types of positions in the mining industry.
  • Solid computer skills with proficiency using Microsoft PowerPoint software
  • Comprehensive knowledge of accident investigation process
  • Capable of designing creative and effective training material
  • Be familiar and support the gas badges program
  • Very familiar with Occupational Health and Safety Act and mining regulations
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Competent report-writing and documentation skills
  • Effective prioritization abilities
  • Capable of effectively managing multiple priorities
  • Good decision-making capabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and works well with others
  • Must possess a valid Class G driver’s license
  • Participates on weekend on-call for safety department
  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic
  • Displays initiative and capable of setting and achieving goals and objectives

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience would be an asset.
  • Certification in Ontario Common Core
  • Underground Supervisor Common Core and “Train The Trainer” would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in accident investigations, produce and distribute appropriate documentation, as required.
  • Conduct planned workplace inspections with supervisors on a weekly basis.
  • Document results of safety tours; follow up to ensure issues have been addressed and resolved.
  • Ensure diligent record-keeping of all training records and signing of documentation.
  • Produce and revise job task procedures.
  • Assist with the development of training modules and underground procedures.
  • Support the occupational health and safety committee.
  • Conduct safety inductions.
  • Develop safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct safety meetings.
  • Identify and correct safety hazards.
  • Ensure all workers comply with Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario and mining regulations.
  • Provide advice and be a safety resource for supervisors.
  • Work in a healthy work environment with full support, cooperation and commitment to satisfy our operation’s goal of being accident-free.
  • Comply with federal and provincial acts and regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Adhere to all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
  • Assist in drug and alcohol testing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
