About The Position

This internship focuses on practical safety tasks within a manufacturing environment. The intern will be involved in risk assessment, data collection, safety program development, and process improvement. A significant portion of the time will be spent on the production floor, interacting with machinery and personnel. The role requires attention to detail, initiative, and the ability to work collaboratively.

Requirements

  • Ability to match risk assessments to JHA.
  • Proficiency in creating PMs in the New near miss portal.
  • Skill in creating safety surveys and collecting data.
  • Knowledge of chemical NFPA signage.
  • Ability to add QR codes to chemical cabinets.
  • Capability to identify and manage expired chemicals.
  • Experience in creating safety recognition programs.
  • Ability to record near misses and follow up on actions.
  • Skill in creating and testing new hire PowerPoint presentations.
  • Willingness to assist colleagues.
  • Ability to add training to the New near miss portal and manage retraining schedules.
  • Understanding of aspect and impact analysis for energy usage.
  • Ability to work on the production floor.
  • Must be able to work four nine-hour days (Monday – Thursday) and one four-hour day (Friday).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with safety protocols in a manufacturing setting.
  • Familiarity with near miss reporting systems.
  • Knowledge of environmental impact assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Match risk assessments to Job Hazard Analyses (JHA).
  • Create Preventative Maintenance (PM) entries in the New near miss portal for all machines.
  • Develop and implement a safety survey, collecting and analyzing data.
  • Manage Chemical NFPA signs in the paint chemical room.
  • Add QR codes to all chemical cabinets.
  • Identify and dispose of expired chemicals in consultation with leads.
  • Create and launch a safety recognition program.
  • Record near misses and manage the follow-up actions.
  • Develop and test a new hire safety PowerPoint presentation.
  • Provide support to Marty as needed.
  • Integrate training from standard work and forklift training into the New near miss portal, including tracking retraining needs and scheduling.
  • Analyze energy usage aspects and impacts, aiming for reductions based on a 20-year baseline.
