About The Position

The Safety and Health Specialist is responsible for ensuring regulatory adherence, supporting school-based staff, and leading initiatives that promote student health and safety. This role serves as a resource for safety compliance and health-related initiatives across our schools and requires strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and excellent communication to ensure compliance and program success.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of experience in compliance, health, or safety roles, or equivalent experience comparable to other specialist positions at NHA.
  • Independent problem-solving skills and strong ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams and departments.
  • Strong networking and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors preferred, but not required
  • Experience in compliance monitoring, training, or program management preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary health compliance lead for all NHA schools, leveraging health professional relationships for support and providing guidance on student health and medical matters.
  • Ensure compliance with state nursing regulations and student health laws; serve as a liaison to state nursing agencies and local health departments.
  • Act as the central point of contact for school leaders and service center teams (SPED, DSQs, Legal/Compliance, Enrollment, Purchasing, Board Relations, Charter Renewal, and Safety).
  • Collaborating with health professionals, arrange training for student medical needs based on their medical action plans.
  • Manage annual nurse and health training requests, including vendor coordination, contract development, amendments, renewals, and ongoing vendor relationship management.
  • Update and maintain health policies and medical handbook language to ensure regulatory alignment and operational efficiency.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, consistency, and cost-effectiveness across safety and health operations.
  • Support the annual completion and compliance reporting of over 1,400 emergency drills, including collection of logs, inspection reports, and submission to authorizers and state entities.
  • Develop and support safety and regulatory compliance training materials for school-based staff.
  • Collect, maintain, and monitor required safety compliance documentation and reporting.
  • Oversee ordering and tracking of required safety and health equipment (e.g., EpiPens, Stop the Bleed kits, etc.).
  • Additional duties as assigned.
