About The Position

Wieland is hiring a Safety, Health, & Environmental Manager. The SHE Manager will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of SHE programs, risk management processes, training, and incident prevention initiatives that protect employees, support business objectives, and enhance overall site performance. This role is located in Wheeling, IL and will be fully on-site. While this role is local, occasional travel to other locations will be required (10-15% travel). Base Salary Range: $102,000 - $127,000. May be eligible for a variable compensation plan bonus based upon company performance within fiscal year cycle. Requirements

  • 7+ years’ experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience – required

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years’ experience in ISO14001, 45001, and/or 9001 – preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Studies, Engineering, or related fields – preferred
  • Advanced certifications in SHE – preferred

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships at all levels of the organization to support Wieland’s global Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) strategy and achieve business objectives.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Global SHE, site leadership, and operations/maintenance teams to drive alignment, collaboration, and ownership of SHE initiatives.
  • Partner with site leadership, engineering, maintenance, and project teams to ensure SHE requirements are integrated into capital projects, facility modifications, contractor activities, and operational changes. Lead Management of Change (MOC) processes and contractor safety oversight to identify and mitigate risk before work is performed.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain SHE programs, policies, procedures, training, auditing, reporting, and compliance processes in accordance with applicable local, state, federal, and corporate requirements.
  • Manage SHE data and reporting systems to ensure accuracy, analyze trends, and provide timely reporting on incidents, SIF/PSIF events, audits, risk assessments, environmental metrics, corrective actions, and other key performance indicators.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on risk reduction, incident prevention, regulatory compliance, and SHE performance. Conduct risk assessments, self-assessments, and audits to identify hazards and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop and maintain site-specific environmental management programs, including hazardous waste and materials management, air emissions, and sustainability.
  • Lead incident, injury, near-miss, and environmental event investigations. Facilitate root cause analysis and ensure effective corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence.
  • Evaluate non-routine and high-risk activities to identify hazards, assess risk, and establish appropriate controls prior to work execution.
  • Coach, mentor, and support leaders and employees in hazard recognition, risk management, safe work practices, and accountability. Establish and facilitate site safety committees and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Manage environmental compliance programs, including permitting, emissions reporting, hazardous waste, chemical management, TSCA, Tier II, TRI, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Administer the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) program and chemical approval process to ensure proper hazard evaluation, communication, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead the site emergency preparedness and response program, including emergency action planning, spill response, crisis management, training, drills, and readiness of emergency equipment and resources.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
