About The Position

The Safety, Health, Environment and Security Manager for the Eastern US and Canada will ensure Austin Powder Company complies with workplace safety regulations from OSHA, MSHA, RCRA, EPA, ERD, and State Environmental regulations. This role also focuses on educating employees to foster a culture of mindful workplace safety. The primary responsibility is to analyze compliance guidelines related to safety, health, and the environment, and ensure that Austin Powder locations meet or exceed these standards. To achieve this, the manager will collaborate with company leadership to ensure guidelines, policies, and practices are consistently followed across all locations. They will educate employees on the 'how and why' of these practices, contributing to an overall safer company. Successful candidates are expected to reside in the Eastern portion of the US, within 50 miles of a major airport.

Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of industry experience.
  • Familiarity with FMCSR and Hazmat regulations.
  • Must have previous experience in either mining and quarrying, explosive, heavy civil construction, commercial motor vehicle carrier, or other relevant industries.
  • Must have the ability to maintain professional relationships with other company employees, industry trade organizations, and customers.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Strong critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analysis skills.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Software.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours based on business needs and travel on short notice.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • OSHA 30 certified required or obtained within 6 months of being hired.
  • RCRA certified required or obtained within 6 months of being hired.
  • This position requires a post-secondary education or a combination of equivalent education and work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold the company's mission, vision, and values.
  • Promote safety awareness in both work practices and company culture.
  • Understand Canadian regulations, US-OSHA, MSHA, RCRA, Environmental laws and assure company compliance with them.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of safety procedures, policies, and guidelines.
  • Conduct safety audits and inspect locations and equipment to ensure a safe working environment and compliance with all regulatory laws.
  • Perform routine safety inspections on gassing set ups, bins, magazines, and at the bench audits.
  • Assist in mitigation of identified hazardous conditions or unsafe acts.
  • Participate in incident investigations and assist with the development of corrective actions.
  • Work with management to effectively implement safety programs and requirements.
  • Communicate with employees at all levels.
  • Train employees in safety procedures, including specialized safety training (e.g., Confined Space, LOTO, Fall Protection) and MSHA Annual Refresher Training as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of current best practices and changes in regulations/policies.
  • Monitor and work in the safety tracking database Intelex.
  • Build relationships with customers' safety personnel.
