About The Position

Responsible for preparing and advising management on Safety & Health (S&H) event prevention policies and procedures, including contractor and public safety matters. The incumbent must be a subject matter expert on S&H regulations pertinent to both the electric utility and construction industries. Communicate S&H information across departments to enhance awareness and compliance. Assist in designing effective S&H programs tailored to organizational needs. Develop advanced technical S&H training programs in collaboration with management. Conduct S&H observations and site visitations. Provide guidance to management on prevention strategies and regulatory adherence. Advise local management and assist in analyzing public liability incidents and managing related concerns. Foster mutual understanding of S&H performance needs with business partners and support business partners in developing strategies for improved S&H outcomes. Lead cultural assessments and performance improvement initiatives related to S&H. Design and deliver relevant training materials to support S&H initiatives and facilitate training within the context of performance objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in safety, health, industrial hygiene/health, or relevant field of study; OR associate degree in relevant field with two years’ experience in related electric utility field operations experience; OR High School diploma/GED with 4 years' experience in related electric utility field operations experience.
  • In addition to education requirement, 8 years of S&H experience, or electric utility operations experience.
  • Must maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Have knowledge of intervention techniques and experience in instruction and meeting facilitation.
  • Understand principles of organization development and principles of performance improvement methodologies.
  • Proficient oral and written skills.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and independence.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient in organizing, initiating, conducting safety training, and maintaining safety programs preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, and/or Certified Utility Safety Professional, desirable but not required.
  • Experience in project management is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate safety programs, including recommending modifications and evaluating protective equipment.
  • Conduct periodic safety audits, prepare reports and discussing findings with management.
  • Assist organizations in formulating long-term strategies for S&H performance improvement, outlining actionable tactics for execution.
  • Advise on changes to policies, procedures, and programs to meet safety objectives in line with applicable state and federal laws.
  • Stay updated on reporting standards and prepare comprehensive reports on company accident and injury experiences, recommending improvements for accident control.
  • Collaborate with business units to assess the impact of proposed federal, state, and OSHA standards on operations.
  • Provide consultation on safety regulations regarding new or modified facilities, ensuring compliance with federal and state standards, including MSHA and OSHA.
  • Lead investigations and inspections aimed at improving hazard control programs and assessing compliance with safety regulations.
  • Evaluate safety programs for effectiveness.
  • Proactively identify, evaluate, and analyze hazardous conditions and practices, working to eliminate weaknesses in the safety management system.
  • Engage in S&H activities to assess current processes and implement performance improvements that positively influence safety culture.
  • Coach staff on developing and evaluating specialized materials, including S&H performance assessments, providing one-on-one guidance as needed.
  • Assist and mentor lower-level S&H professionals, providing guidance and support to enhance their skills and effectiveness.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest S&H techniques through ongoing professional development.
  • Provide and present relevant information and skills related to S&H topics, offering training as necessary.
  • Advocate for and enforce the company’s S&H programs to ensure adherence across all levels of the organization.
