About The Position

Balfour Beatty is seeking a Safety Health & Environmental Manager to join their team at a state-of-the-art operations facility. This facility includes a multi-story building with open office areas, collaborative workspaces, computer labs, and classrooms, along with an accompanying parking garage. The project is design-build. This position is responsible for implementing the company’s safety and loss prevention programs. The role ensures that job-site employees and subcontractors are trained in all safety programs and protocols, including federal/state regulations, to prevent accidents and injuries. This position may involve travel between different jobsites or assignment to a single project.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Safety & Environmental Health or Construction Management/Engineering Degree.
  • 4 years of safety experience where safety is at least 50%, preventative, professional level with breadth and depth of safety duties.
  • 5 years or more of commercial construction safety experience required.
  • 2 years or more of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrates proficiency using a personal computer (PC) and company communication tools, such as email, internet, and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook).
  • OSHA 30 required.
  • CHST Certification.
  • US Citizenship due to federal contract requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and facilitate safety training and incentive programs.
  • Maintain statistical information on costs and frequency.
  • Perform accident investigations.
  • Manage safety personnel and consultants.
  • Conduct jobsite visits/safety audits.
  • Prepare project safety start-up packets, including new-hire packets, federal/state compliance materials, and safety and workers compensation material.
  • Review and assist superintendents with project-specific safety plans, Pre-Task Plans (PTPs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and other safety submittals.
  • Provide support to the project team and subcontractors in meetings such as daily huddles, foreman’s meetings, and preparatory meetings.
  • Provide sources for projects to obtain SDS books and ensure projects have required information on-site.
  • Conduct accident investigations, including written reports.
  • Address and provide resources and solutions for environmental and hazardous material issues and concerns.
  • Conduct safety training and track said training for project personnel.
  • Provide first aid training to ensure supervisors have required up-to-date first aid cards.
  • Maintain site safety records.
  • Oversee the site’s craft/hourly drug testing program.
  • Represent the Company at meetings of safety professionals, alliances, associations, etc.
