About The Position

Werner Enterprises’ summer internship is an 11-week immersion designed to connect classroom learning with real-world experience. The paid internship provides dedicated job training and learning opportunities and is based at the company’s Corporate Headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska; some remote and off-site opportunities may be available. Interns work in a collaborative, inclusive environment and may be eligible for paid housing or housing assistance.

The intern supports the Corporate Safety Quality Assurance team by evaluating safety processes, reviewing data, identifying trends, and contributing to risk reduction and process improvement. The role includes collaboration on safety projects, support for policies and training initiatives, and hands-on experience with safety management systems and related tools.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Safety Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Occupational Safety, Supply Chain Management, Data Analytics, Operations Management, or a related field.
• Curiosity about safety, transportation, and/or continuous improvement.
• Analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, and willingness to ask questions.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate, adapt, and follow through on assigned work.

Nice To Haves

• Introductory coursework in data analytics, project management, engineering, or process improvement.
• Prior transportation experience is not required; job training and guidance are provided.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Corporate Safety Quality Assurance team in evaluating safety processes and procedures.
• Review safety data, identify trends, and recommend ways to reduce risk and improve efficiency.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on safety-related projects affecting drivers, associates, and operational staff.
• Help update policies, procedures, and safety resources to support federal requirements and company standards.
• Support process improvements, system enhancements, and training initiatives aimed at reducing risk and improving efficiency.
• Use safety management systems, Salesforce, Samsara Portal, Google Suite, and related tools.
