The Safety Engineer ensures the safety of employees, trade partners, and the general public on construction projects. The role promotes a culture of care while enforcing Clark's Safety and Health Policy and applicable local, state, and federal safety standards. Working with project supervisors and field personnel, the Safety Engineer supports safety education and develops safe work plans for project phases and tasks. The position also coordinates project-specific safety programs, reviews specialized safety plans, identifies exposures, and helps plan and implement hazard-mitigation measures. The role involves substantial time on active construction sites as well as desk work in an office. Site work includes adapting to varied weather, moderate to loud noise, uneven terrain, stairs, ladders, hoists, elevated or confined areas, and moving mechanical equipment. The job is physically demanding, with frequent standing and movement, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Office tasks may involve prolonged sitting, computer work, document review, and meetings. The role requires flexibility to work extended hours during critical project phases or client deadlines, and to monitor and respond to communications when time-sensitive matters or emergencies arise. Clark describes the position as part of a demanding, high-performance environment and expects employees to follow company safety procedures and applicable laws at all locations. Employment requires a pre-employment drug fitness-for-duty screening; random quarterly tests are also conducted.
