About The Position

The Safety Engineer will be part of the UniFirst Corporate Support Services Safety Department, engaged in the development and implementation of Health and Safety programs at the Regional and Location levels in order to maintain compliance with safety regulations and Safety Culture Continual Improvement process. They will conduct audits, training, and engagement strategies at UniFirst locations across the United States and Canada as assigned.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of industrial/manufacturing experience
  • Professional safety certification (CSP or similar) preferred, or willingness to obtain certification required
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • OSHA and compliance regulation experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with labor, management, and outside consultants and governmental entities
  • Professional and helpful attitude
  • Willingness to collaborate with others and problem-solve
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and maintain reasonable deadlines
  • Openness to training in other Health and Safety areas
  • Ability to identify and correct unsafe actions
  • Skilled in the Root Cause Analysis process, mitigation, and corrective strategies
  • Knowledgeable in, and skilled the implementation of the hierarchy of controls
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to obtain passport for Canadian travel

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Origami preferable
  • Knowledgeable in Third-Party Compliance preferable

Responsibilities

  • Design, manage and update safety programs, procedures and training to improve and maintain safe working conditions for UniFirst Team Partners as well as visitors and contractors at UniFirst locations.
  • Support the UniFirst Safety Ambassador program, including providing support for organized safety inspections throughout UniFirst.
  • Conduct safety audits at UniFirst locations under your oversight, to include identifying and correcting potential safety hazards as well as training location management and frontline Team Partners on safety related issues.
  • Present training and new initiatives to a wide audience, from senior management to frontline Team Partners.
  • Conduct JHAs, HA’s, Risk Assessments, Ergonomics assessments at UniFirst locations.
  • Support leadership to apply and encourage corrective action including engineering controls, equipment, and process changes, reinforcing positive behaviors, and administrative activities.
  • Demonstrate and assist with good safety practices at locations
  • Oversight of all accident, incident and near miss reporting through the Company’s Risk Management System.
  • Take an active role in accident investigations and injury management by thoroughly reviewing accident reports and conducting a formal RCA (Root Cause Analysis) where necessary.
  • Collect and analyze injury data to identify trends as well as make recommendations for improvement along with JHA development and revision.
  • Act as a liaison and point of contact between UniFirst and local, state, and federal safety and environmental agencies including Emergency Management Organizations.
  • Collaborate with other Support Services Departments, as well as UniFirst’s operations, to help eliminate hazards throughout the Company.
  • Review and approve all process and equipment plans as well as any revisions necessary to improve the Company’s safety profile. Assess the risk with UniFirst Team Partners and evaluate the effectiveness regarding the safe working environment.
  • Evaluate engineering modifications of machinery for improved safety
