About The Position

The Safety Director will be responsible for overseeing and implementing safety protocols across all construction activities. This role involves conducting thorough safety assessments, evaluating subcontractor plans, leading safety meetings, and reporting on safety performance to executive leadership. The Director will also manage safety documentation, develop site-specific safety strategies, track safety metrics, and act as the main point of contact for regulatory agencies like OSHA. Ensuring consistent application of safety policies across all divisions is a key aspect of this position.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • 8 years of safety experience in construction, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership or director-level role.
  • Deep understanding of construction operations, methods, sequencing, and high-risk activities.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, environmental regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, influence behavior, and implement change across multiple projects or divisions.
  • Experience writing safety policies, procedures, and training materials.
  • Strong skills in communication, investigation, conflict resolution, and coaching.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to maintain an acceptable MVR.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or greater in Safety is preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred; a combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
  • NFPA 70E Certified
  • OSHA 500 or OTI certified
  • HAZWOPER
  • Completion of Industrial Training International’s Lift Director & Critical Lift Planning Course
  • First Aid / CPR / AED.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct jobsite audits, hazard analyses, and detailed assessments of ongoing construction activities.
  • Evaluate subcontractor safety plans and verify they meet company and contract standards.
  • Lead companywide safety meetings and specialized safety workshops.
  • Provide timely safety performance reporting to executive leadership.
  • Oversee the review and approval of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), pre-task plans, and high-risk work procedures.
  • Collaborate with project leaders to develop site-specific safety strategies, especially for complex or high-risk scopes.
  • Implement systems to track safety metrics, leading indicators, and trends to drive continuous improvement.
  • Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies such as OSHA during inspections or investigations.
  • Ensure consistent application of safety policies across all divisions and project types.
