About The Position

Seeking a field Safety Coordinator in Norfolk, VA to assist with a long term Road Connector Project. This role involves administering compliance with the safety program, leading accident prevention efforts, conducting site inspections, developing and implementing safety programs, investigating accidents, performing jobsite inspections and audits, coordinating safety meetings and training, and participating in regulatory agency inspections. The position requires the ability to stand, walk, and climb multiple flights of stairs, and involves working rotating day and night shifts in an outside role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety from an accredited institution or 5 years' experience as a safety professional in the construction industry
  • Bridge/Roadway experience
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and climb multiple flights of stairs.

Nice To Haves

  • 7 years’ construction safety experience in heavy construction (marine works, tunnel, or roadway)
  • OSHA 30 Hour Construction Safety Trained
  • CHST
  • Safety Trained Supervisor-Construction (STS-C) Certified, through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals
  • First aid/CPR/AED Certified

Responsibilities

  • Administer compliance with the safety program and lead accident prevention efforts to ensure company and project safety goals are met.
  • Conduct site inspections of project work areas and equipment.
  • Develop, organize, and implement safety related programs that meet company safety standards.
  • Assisting in the investigation of accidents and determining root causes and recommend corrective /preventive measures.
  • Perform and document jobsite inspections and audits with a focus on hazard recognition and unsafe behaviors.
  • Coordinate and conduct safety meetings/training programs to ensure effective communication amongst new and existing employees.
  • Participate in regulatory agency inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Carry out any other assigned tasks given by the Area Safety Manager or Area Project Manager.
