About The Position

Our McComb, MS lumber mill has an immediate opening for an Hourly Safety Coordinator. This position is a full-time developmental role that will provide excellent growth potential and opportunities for advancement. The Safety Coordinator plays a critical role in helping the site to achieve this success. This position will report to the site Safety Manager and assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs to ensure personnel and facility safety. Participates in monitoring and controlling execution of the organization’s safety standards to ensure compliance with OSHA and State/Provincial regulations. Assists in the development and implementation of programs and record keeping systems to track and evaluate personnel injury and illnesses. Assists with internal audits and incident investigations and inspections of procedures, equipment, and materials.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations / requirements
  • Passion for safety as demonstrated by a strong commitment to associate safety
  • Knowledge of chemical and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) systems management
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with hourly and salaried associates
  • Proactive, assertive and ability to work with a sense of urgency
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency in MS Office and knowledge of health & safety software programs
  • High level of integrity, strong work ethic, good judgment, and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to work extended hours should a situation warrant

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree preferred
  • 2-5 years mill / safety committee experience
  • Safety & industrial hygiene certification and/or training
