About The Position

The purpose of this position is to develop and implement professional workforce safety programs, oversee, and track training for positions which require a commercial driver's license and staff members at all terminal levels. Customize training for operating and non-operating divisions (Customer Service, Sexual Harassment, Workplace Violence etc.) and emergency response programs/plans. This position conducts investigations related to incidents/accidents and Workers' Compensation and works with various departments to develop policies and oversee audits. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate required.
  • 1-3 years of experience
  • Must have prior knowledge of general transportation safety, student safety and employee safety related state and federal regulations (i.e.- PUC, DOT, EPA, OSHA, DOL) that apply to the Company’s business.
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver License with P, S and air brake endorsements and pass a school bus driver physical within 6 months of hire.
  • Ability to obtain safety related certifications as/when needed.

  • Ability to thrive and adapt in a constantly changing and sometimes chaotic environment and consistently meet tight timelines
  • Must be proficient with standard office-based computer systems and software including MS Office suite

  • Ability to observe, and coach employee and driver behavior and skills and know when it is appropriate to use discipline.

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for up to 2 years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide all documentation to the home office as required by company policies for all safety related accidents and or incidents.
  • Assist the Terminal Manager in maintaining accurate files on all safety related accidents and or incidents.
  • Assist the Terminal Manager in preparation of an agenda for monthly safety meetings.
  • Assist the Terminal Manager in scheduling required random or other drug and alcohol testing and ensure compliance as required by FMCSA, DOT, PUC or other governmental agencies.
  • Assist the Terminal Manager in conducting timely investigations into all accidents/incidents including employee injury reports for District, Local and or State officials.
  • Assist the Terminal Manager in scheduling and implementing bus evacuation drills twice a year along with the necessary training to students.
  • Assist the Terminal Manager/Dispatch Supervisor in evaluating safe routes and bus stops.
  • Assist Dispatch as needed and drive when necessary to assist the company in maintaining our compliance with our district contract.
  • Assist the office staff in answering the phones and two-way radios as needed.
  • Physically assist current employees and new applicants in maintaining and/or obtaining their required certifications expeditiously without compromising safety.
  • Monitor daily pre/post trip vehicle inspections, document and report violations in writing to the manager.
  • Ensure all accidents are reported in writing to the Terminal Manager and company Safety and Compliance Officer. Accidents involving other vehicles, bodily injury or significant damage should be reported immediately after the required local notification have been issued, followed by a written report no later than 24 hours.
  • Ensure that all files including video footage is preserved and documented along with written statements from the employee(s) involved, management overview, investigation report, any penalties assessed to the employees involved and required post training implemented as a result from the incident/accident.
  • Review all accidents and future preventability with the Terminal Manager and in some cases with the company’s Risk Manager and insurance company.
  • Be responsible for oversight of worker’s compensation claims; including but not limited to initial reporting of injuries to the company Human Resource Officer plus acting as a liaison for any on-going care or treatment follow-up with the injured person(s).
  • Conduct driver evaluations as needed after an “at fault” crash or bi-annually after hired utilizing company forms.
  • Involves actively doing risk analysis and facility assessments to avoid hazardous conditions.
  • Maintain OSHA 300 log for all work-related accidents and injuries.
  • Observe arrivals and dismissals at the school facilities regarding safe and efficient operations.
  • Participate in safety education with local law enforcement, fire and EMS plus school officials in developing bus safety education along with presenting this information to parents and children at designated events or meetings.
  • Video retrieval: Per STSD/KT contract, must be sent to the requesting School Official within 48 hours.
  • Info contained in videos is not to be discussed with anyone other than Terminal Mgr., STSD Officials, Driver of KT vehicle involved or anyone else deemed required by Terminal Mgr. or STSD Officials.
  • When providing STSD Officials with video, reserve opinions unless requested by Terminal Mgr. and/or STSD Officials.
  • If unable to provide STSD with video, for whatever reason, inform Terminal Mgr. first and immediately, then STSD Official in a timely manner.
  • ALWAYS exhaust all means to retrieve every STSD video request.
  • ALWAYS review video with Terminal Mgr., prior to submitting it to STSD Official, if it involves performance of a KT employee.
  • It is Safety Mgr.’s job to assist Terminal Mgr. and STSD Officials do their jobs by providing timely video.
  • Will be required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement due to the severity of personal and company information.
  • Other duties may be assigned by Terminal Manager or designated staff member.
