About The Position

The Safety Coordinator assists the Safety Manager in tasks and responsibilities related to health and safety at the mill, including promoting the safety culture, preventing workplace accidents, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

Requirements

Understanding of OSHA guidelines and other relevant safety regulations
Familiarity with tools, machinery, and equipment commonly used in a manufacturing setting
Attention to detail
Problem-solving skills
Strong communication skills
Regularly required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to handle or feel.
Frequently required to talk or hear.
Required to reach with hands and arms.
Employee must regularly climb up and down multiple levels of stairs.
Employee has to physically perform demanding tasks such as working on knees, moving and lifting heavy objects (not to exceed 50 lbs.), and standing for on concrete or grating.

Responsibilities

Educate supervisors, managers, and other staff members on safety standards, conducting training sessions to ensure a thorough understanding of protocols and procedures.
Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and federal and state regulations, conducting regular audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement.
Verify employees adhere to established safety protocols and procedures, taking corrective action to address non-compliance issues.
Review existing safety procedures and recommend enhancements to optimize safety standards and practices.
Act as back-up trainer for Safety Manager on OSHA- and mill-required training
Collect and enter Safety Observation Cards
Enter safety work orders based on findings and employee concerns/feedback
Plan and execute projects to enhance workplace safety
Ensure the availability and maintenance of safety equipment and supplies
Actively participate in Safety Committee Meetings
