About The Position

This is technical and safety consultative work for a large geographical area of the state for a large and diverse agency performed under limited to minimal supervision required. Responsibilities include: Inspect facilities, reviewing plans, and specifications for new and renovated facilities. Identify trends and specific unsafe conditions and safety violations, developing solutions and recommendations to correct problem areas. Positions has limited regulations in a wide ranging and comprehensive safety and health, hazardous materials management and emergency planning program with a large and diverse agency. Perform periodic safety and industrial hygiene inspections in an assigned large geographic area of the state. Prepare reports outlining problems technical solutions to problem areas and violations including design modifications. Consulting with management to schedule and implement corrective measures. Conducting safety, health and hazardous material training sessions. Educate personnel in existing hazards and developing and promoting safety awareness. Conduct or direct studies of accidents, hazards and health risks and prescribing the necessary preventive or corrective measures and safety equipment. Analyze and provide consultation on hazardous waste management problems; and providing interpretations of safety and health regulations and acting as a technical resource in a specialty area. May include other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in safety engineering, industrial engineering, industrial management or technology, occupational safety, or one of the physical sciences or an equivalent technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and a minimum of three years of progressive occupational and safety and health experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in Occupational Safety and Health inspections, and/or experience with federal, state and local regulations including, but not limited to, OSHA, NIOSH, NFPA, ANSI, ACGIH, and NC State building codes.
